game apiece the bantams
on a crucial game 7-3 in
C4inton last Wednesday.
Facing elimination onstheir
home rink Sarnia overcame
a -two-goal deficit to tie the
Steelers 3-3 last Saturday but
Were unable to cling to the
lifeline and were defeated 5-1
in Goderich Sunday.
Goderich won the best of
five semi-final series and the
right to meet Stouffville in the -
final with three victories, a
tie and one loss in the five
games.
In Clinton last Wednesday
Goderich racked up five goals
in the second period, after a
scoreless first period, and
added two more in the third
en route to a 7-3 victory and a
one game lead in the series.
Larry Madge provided the
offensive punch as he scored
four goals and added one
assist. Linemate Rob Trebish
scored two goals and Dan
Maillet added the other goal.
Madge opened the scoring
with two goals within the first
two minutes of play in the
second period. Rob Trebish
increased the margin to three
before Tony Brenders scored
a powerplay goal for Sarnia.
Trebish replied for
Goderich with his second goal
just a minute and a half later
to regain the •)Steelers two
goal advantage. Sarnia
fought back with a goal late in
the second period but 45
seconds later, Dan Maillet
scored a short-handed goal
for Goderich to make the
Midgets lose final two.
The Goderich Green and
Parent Midgets finished off
their 1977 season dropping
two games at the Wingham
Midget Hockey Tournament
last week.
Goderich lost their opening
game to Orangeville 5-3
March 18 and were shaded 4-3
by Beamsville March 21 in
Wingham.
Orangeville broke a 3-3 tie
with a goal late in the second
period and added an in-
surance marker in the third
period to beat Goderich 5-3 in
the opening game played in
Howick.
Goderich opened the
scoring early in the first
period as Roger Lewis con-
verted a pass from Team-
mate Steve Arbour after just
two minutes of play.

five minutes later on an
unassisted effort by Glen
Murray. Arbor put Goderich
in the lead again as he drilled
in a shot from Lewis, and
Paul Helesic. Orangeville
then rallied for two goals
before the end of the first
period and a 3-2 lead.

two minutes into the second
period on a 'goal by Helesic.

Suns reach semi-final
The Suncoast Suns Atoms
took part in the Kincardine
Winter Games hockey
tournament during the school
break. The Suns won their
preliminary round game 3-0
over Ripley, but were
eliminated by Port Elgin in
the championship semi-finals
by a similar 3-0 score.
Walkerton defeated Port
Elgin in the championship
final.
Against Ripley, Grant
Garrow scored two goals.
Todd Graham scored the
other Goderich goal. Daryl.
Madge and Shawn. Rahbek
each had one assist!'
Goaltenders Terry Bean and
Randy Gaynor combined for
the shutout in the Suns' net.
Terry Chappell scored
twice and Mike Prange once
for Port Elgin in their win
over the Suns.
Coach Richard Madge' felt
his team had peaked in their.
WOAA Atom consolation
championship series sweep
over Hanover last week, and
that fact, combined with -the
absence of two players
through illness, left the Suns
at less than their best on the
tournament. "However the
kids had a lot of fun, and that
is the main thing, anyway",
commented the Suns coach.
The tournament games
were the last of the season for
the Suns who played a total of
37 league, exhibition, playoff
and tournament games,
winning 25 and losing 12. The
Suns- finished in second place
in league standings, and won
the WOAA consolation
championship. They also won
the consolation championship
at the Seaforth Winter Car-
nival tournament.
With a total of nine players
returning next year, coach
Madge feels the Suns can look
forward to another good
season in 1977-78.
