Although the. regular+;
reports . for January and:
February presented to the
local Police Commission .by
Chief Pat King last week
showed a fairly routine line of
law enforcement activities,
the chief did admit there had
been an upswing in van-
dalism during recent weeks.
Chief King was responding
to a question from Mayor Deb',
Shewfelt who told the com-

mission he had heard a
number of complaints from
ratepayers about incidents of
vandalism. Mayor Shewfelt
said the East an4Kingston
street areas seemed to be •
suffering the. most:
Chief King told the meeting
that there had been a number
of reports of broken windows
and other damage resulting
from thrown - stones, bricks,
sling shot attacks and even a
hurled gas cap. He added that
the grandstand area had also
been the scene of such ac-
tivities.
One business premise on
the Square also suffered a
broken window, it was noted.
Chief King told the com-
missioners that such van-
dalism was difficult to
prevent. There was ap-

officer's gun holster and

commissioners were told
would rgduce costs of
maintenance, give excellent
mileage (22 .miles, per'gahon

pollution.
The unleaded fuel would
mean somewhat higher fuel
costs for the Department,
however, as the Police have
traditionally used fuel from
the town pumps and those
tanks only provide leaded
fuel. The commission decided
to study further the wisdom of
continuing with leaded fuel or
asking for a new tender to
supply unleaded fuel for the
new cruiser.
In other business the
commission accepted a

Only one tender' for clothing
was received, that one from
