It was laid out as a town site by 'Provincial Surveyor Wm, Hawkins in 1837. At one time the population got up to over 300 but the young people drifted away`for jobs Now the trenri is changing again. With more local jobs quite ,a number of new houses have been built over the last few years, \port Albert had a newspaper of its own once. During world war two the R.A.F No. 31 Air Navigation School here had a publication called "The Compass News." They did all the news, cartoons, photos and editing and the Goderich Signal -Star published it. We have several copies here if any former R.A.F. members are in- terested. Local-Baha'is1begjn new year March 21 Local area Baha'is of .Goderich and Colborne gathered together with in- vited guests at Carlow Hall' for the celebration of Naw- Ruz, the Baha'i spring New Year, on Sunday, March 20. The first day of spring conjures up images of renewal, rebirth and new beginnings. These are some of the reasons that the Bab, one of the principle figures in the. Baha'i Faith, chose March. 21st to celebrate Baha'i New Year. It marks the first day of the first month in a new 19 month calendar designed by the Bab, each month consisting of 19 days. The names of the months are based on the various attributes of God ; for instance this first month is called "Splendor". On the first day of each month Baha'i communities gather together to celebrate a Feast which, involves devotion, consultation on the affairs of the community, and fellowship. The last month of the year from March 2 to 21, "Lof- tiness" is set aside for fasting and prayer in preparation for the forthcoming year. The fast is observed from sunrise to sunset each day. Prior to the beginning of this last month, • a four day period called the Intercalary Days equalizes the calendar to the 365 day year, and constitutes Family care workers meet The family care workers held the March1-7 meeting at - the board rooms, Clinton Public Hospital, with a good attendance. Speakers for the evening were Huron County's four Victorian Order Nurses. They gave a short talk and led a discussion, answering questions. Mrs. Ethel Clarke thanked the nurses for coming. • This year's wages were. discussed. The meeting closed with social half hour; 'Statistics prime that at the age of lb' there are five women .to every man. Isn't that the darndest time for a guy to get those odds. the gift -giving time of the Baha'i Year, It is the conviction of the Baha'i Faith that the lives and teachings of both the Bab and Baha'u'llah who came after Him, have infused a fresh capacity into the life orae mankind, much as the arrival of spring itself revives in the earth its inherent capacity to foster growth. All the myriad achievements of mankind in the fields of technology, mass communications, tran- sportation and science in the past 100 years are the physical manifestations of this new capacity. From the cycles of nature the Baha'i Faith draws a parallel to the history of. religion. Each of the world's religions has gone through the same four stages of spring, summer, fail and winter. Each experinnces the youthful vigor of spring when its Founder appears in the world, the ' intensity of summer during its most creative period, in the fall, when it yields its harvest and the fullness of its achievement; `then, inevitably, it slips into winter, when like a tree it leaves fallen, it stands silent, awaiting the return of spring. With the coming of the Bab and Baha'u'llah, Baha'is believe, the religion of God has been renewed once more» this time to culminate in the zenith of its achievement, with the unification of the entire human race in one common faith. • CHRIST CHURCH NEWS The vestry meeting was late ' being postponed twice because of weather.
