A • social eVening'litiS been planned by the executive of the Goderich Sailing Club as its kick-off event for the 19,77 soason. The evening will take - the form of a gourmet dinner and dance to be held at the Maitland Country Club, April 2. The club's new CQM- modore, George Robertson, has christened the evening "Icebreaker 77". According to Commodore Robertson, the event fills a double purpose: raising funds to complete the final payment on the purchase of four Petrel sailboats used by youngsters in the community for summer sailing 'instruction. and. a chance for new members to get to know the sailing club and its proposed activities for this season. Vice -Commodore for the coming year is Doug Bundy, who is once again organizing the Community Sailing Programme in conjunction with the Recreation and Com m unify Centre Board. Last year instruction was provided for about 75 youngsters and a similar enrolment is anticipated. One project under discussion is a formal junior racing programme and the addition of spinaker gear to at least • part of the junior fleet of Petrels. • tinder the direction of Ron Lee, the summer race • programme is being for- mulated. It is expected that a special regatta will be sponsored by the GSC as its contribution towards the Town of Goderich Sesquitentennial Celebration. This will most likely be held the July 1 weekend and invitations will be extended to boaters from Bayfield, Kincardine and Port Elgin. Brian won both of his games against Bob in the regular season -but both were long tough games. Sam Hassan and Doug Brindley will, play a quarter- final series with the winner, taking on Jim Kingsleyin semi-finals. This series should prove extremely in- teregting as Sam and Doug had 1-1-1- records against each other in the regular season, In Level 3 Don Bogie held on to first place with a mere .001 point edge over Charles Cook who in turn had only.a .009 lead over Kirk Lyndon. Don Bogie and Kirk Lyndon will meet each other in semi- final play while Bob Fitz - lames will challenge Jim Gower in quarter -finals with the winner taking on Charles Cook.
