step by step process of minting pure nickel medals
ding Goderich's own Dunlop Dollars at Sherritt Gordon
s with the production of pure nickel powder. This
er is continuously compacted between a pair of rolls
r high pressure to produce "green strip". This "green
' is passed through a sintering furnace and is then hot
to fully dense strip. The hot rolled material is finally
rolled to gauge to give the correct thickness required
e medal. The cold rolled pure nickel strip is passed
gh a punch press which produces blanks. These blanks
hen deburred and -burnished, giving a perfectly cir-
eutar blank ready for minting. The actual minting starts'
with the placing of• the two negatively impressed dies
(obverse and reverse; or, more commonly "heads and
tails") in a knuckle press - one die remains stationary, the
other moves up and down. Blanks are then automatically
and singly fed into a cavity directly between the two dies.
The upper moving die comes down with a force of 150 tons of
pressure making the die impression on the heads of the
blank, and forcing the blank into the stationary die, thus
giving the tails of the medal.

increase in the wholesale
price --the price Union pays
for its gas supplies --which has
been in effect since January
1, 1977.
The Energy Board had also
approved the passing on of
increases in the purchase
price of gas to contract
customers whose contracts
contain escalation clauses.
This is effective March 1,
1977. .
Union was able to delay
passing on the increase for
two months, because it had in
storage a large volume of gas
purchased at lower prices
before January 1.
The January 1 wholesale
