Favoured with a sunny
afternoon, the -members of
Ahmeek Chapter IODE held
their annual meeting at the
horne of the Regent Mrs. J.G.
Henderson on Monday
February 7.
Mrs.' Charles Ruffell,
standard bearer, presented
the flags, in her usual quiet,
dignifieel• manner. The
secretary, Mrs. A. Habel
gave her detailed informative
report.
Mrs. R. Neville, treasurer
revealed a very encouraging
picture financially for the
year. Education convener
Mrs. M. Robinson's report
showed money and efforts,
well spent And appreciated in
that area.
The services secretary,
Mrs. C. Cutt, was absent from
the meeting, but her excellent
report was read. Each
member had contributed
individually towards the
layettes for the northern
parts of Canada.
The yearly supply of
handmade quilts was sent to
Sick Children's Hospital in
London. These are always
very much appreciated.
Hand-knit$ed mitts,
hospital gowns and other
articles of clothing were sent
to head office for distribution.
Several local fund drives
were assisted by the Ahmeek
ladies, either in time or cash
donations: - not the least of
which, was a $1,000'donation
in June to the Goderich Arena
building fund.
Mrs. M. ,Robinson gave the
report on nominations for the
executive for the coming
year.
The Regent thanked all
members for the work done
and co-operation received.
Mrs. Henderson noted that
the 75th anniversary year had
been a good one, in all
aspects.
Mrs. R. Neville was asked
to install the officers for the
coming year. In a brief
resume she remarked that
the members had all worked
together to make the past
year successful, both
financially and socially, but
Donnybrook ladies
discuss quiltings
The Donnybrook United
Church Women held the
February meeting at the
home. of Mrs. Edward
Robinson on Tuesday af-
ternoon, February 8 with 19
members present.
Mrs, Glen McConnell
opened the meeting with the
theme "Mission of Love".
Mrs.. Wm. Hardy gave the
prayer. Mrs. H. Jefferson and
Mrs. R. Jefferson gave the
scripture readings from first
John and Proverbs.
Mrs. E. Robinson gave the
topic "Mission and Message"
-from Mission Profile. It was
on Hinduisum from India and
a self-help project by some
giving property, wells and
seed etc. to help the poor get a
start. Each land owner was
asked for one-sixth of his
land for land gift moveinent.
Mrs. Wm. Robinson gave a
reading "Slow". The offering
was taken followed by prayer
by Mrs. G. McConnell.
The secretary's report was
read and Mrs. E. Snowden
took over the business. Mrs.
E. Robinson reported on the
PreshYteriar meeting in
Setiforth.
A pancake supper and
quiltings were discussed.
Mrs. E. Robinson closed the
Meeting with prayer.
Mrs. Otto Weber demon-
strated how to make un-
derwear.
Mrs. W. Mason and Mrs. R.
Hanna assisted the hostess
with a dainty lunch.
Lions and wives
stranded in storm
Eighteen • Lions Club
members, from as far away
as Orangeville and Owen
Sound, along with their wives,
found themselves stranded in
Goderich over the weekend -
when the roads were closed
by another storm.
The Lions were in Goderich
ttending a Lions Cabinet
i ,, hosted by the local
b in the Lions Den at the
Candlelight Restaurant.
While the district meeting
was underway, the ladies
were hosted by Lion wives
with a tour of the town and
entertained at the homes of
Lions Gord McManus and
George Parsons. The day
wound up with a dinner at the
SMILE
The Missus, at 3:00 in the
morning: "Wake up, I hear a
moose squeaking."
Her spouse: "So what do
you want me to do; get out of
bed and oil it?" '
"Maybe you don't like my
boyfriend," said the daughter
to her father, "but you notice
he ealIs for me in a $7,000
sports car!"
That's nothing," replied the
father, "I used to take your
mother out in a $25,000 bus!"

had .won a toy at a, raffle. He
,called the kids together to ask

town members were advised
of Ministry of Transport and
Communications warnings
for motorists to stay off th‘
roads.
Accommodations for the
visiting Lions were located at
hotels and motels in
Goderich. •

Mrs. Neville handed the
gavel, with her good wishes to
Mrs. Henderson to resume
officeas Regent.

A very pleasant piece of
new business was conducted.

vener, Mrs. Neville presented
Mrs, G. Cunningham who
took her affirmation, thus
becoming the first new
member for 1977 for Ahmeek.
The members were
delighted to welcome Mrs. C.
Taylor, a guest for the af-
ternoon,
At the clos,e of the meeting
the ladies enjoyed a dainty
lunch served by Mrs. A.
Alexander, Mrs. M. Robinson
and Mrs. J.G. Henderson.
The members were
reminded that fees are now
due. The March meeting will
be at the home of Mrs. Frank
Walkom.
