Not long ago, my friend Ruth Jackson, immediate past -president of the Ontario Division of the CAC,. was guest columnist for one in the Xitchener-Waterloo Record. Her "gifts" for the Yuletide season inchlded three against farm organiza- tions.andtiveagaiript alt the rest of the world. , I 'wish June Menzies, vice -Chairman of the anti-inflation board, would spend less time trying to onarlate Beryl Plurriptreby also taking potshots atfarm organizations and marketing boards. More than -a year „ago, the Ontario government agreed. that 'mite -setting marketing boards would adhere to the spirit of the MB guidelines. A month ago, Mrs: Menzies met with senior marketing board of- ficials and .leaders in the Ontario Ministry. of Agriculture and nod: She spelled out rigid terms to those people. In fact, she asked fluid milk and chicken boards to Check their costs. Mrs. Menzies did not ask those .two boards to scrap their present price -setting policies. She couldn't. It turned out that both boards were setting prices below the AIB guidelines. For hog producers, I wish for a return to prices of a Year ago of $77 a hundredweight, not the lows of $52 now. For milk producers, an increase in quota, especially for those who spent thoqsands in recent years expecting that increase, not the decrease thrown at them by the federal government lastspring. For corn growers, much -enlarged storage facilities in Ontario so they can send their crops to market when prices are better. I wish the provincial government would pay more at- tention to a recent private members' bill which would 4eSittnat*441000Intrat4a Cm' itOnntY&'W.n7 which would tiVent ton!! beirigt0hbled.un at an unprecedented tntel* for. He's y9ung3 well-educated, articulate., and-, pro- gressive, just thetype of new blood needed,. , ' For Bill Newman, Ontario's Minister of Ariculture and •••• • Food, success in his farm Mame stabilization bill: Unt fortunately, he was forced into making some major chang- es m that bill which thelleve were not necestaiy. The op- pesition parties forced -the changes and I'm, predicting now that the Liberal party, in this province .will have trouble living Wlibthe changes. But that's their problem. To all the editors who are smart enough to buy -this , column for their newspapers, may you have another prosperouS year. But most of all, best wishes to those wonderful readers of this deathless prose. One editor this year cancelled the column --for lack of interest, he said — and got half • a dozen calls and letters to get it back in the paper. And an extra special wish for those readers who took the time and trouble to put pen to paper and write a letter either in support of, or disagreeing with, some of .the opinions expressed here. I cannot acknowledge all of them and I want the writers to know they are appreciated. Have a happy, happy New Year, my friends. May your best day of 1976 be your worst day of 1977. .CFF feors more goiett. • The Christian Fanners Federation Of Ontario has flatly rejected proposed provincial subsidies and has appealed to the Resources Committee of the Provincial .Legislature to drop Bill 131, an - Act .respecting Farm -Income Stabilization. --- In a Itatement.thateharply contrasted • the position' presented by Peter Hannam,* the Ontario Federation of Agriculture's new President, the Christian Farmers Federation warned that the income program would guarantee the incomeof most Christian farmers and that it would be a significant in- centive to many farmers in theprovince, CFFsPokesman, Elbert governinent-planned.',„„ van Dorikersgaed, warned the ,—production-l!Our_diffjcultieS 20 -member Committee of the with industrial milk are_ an Legislattee that . such in- example of the problems we 'centives tied to government wish to avoid.” --- funds would lead to more nd The Christian Fianrier-A. attmore gOyernment-pl - ed" Federation , en dories production. • ' • producer -Planned productl'on "The- members of the when producers in specific CFF," says Mr. van Commodities have lottgAerfn Donkersgoed are opposed to . income difficnities. .
