JUNE 17
'A concentrated fund-
raising campaign for the new
arena roof will kick off on
June 18 and for four days
canvassers will be knocking
on doors trying to raise about
$120,000.
The aim of, the drive is to
reopen the doors of the arena'
in time for hockey and figure
skating and to keep the cost of
the project within the con-
fines of the.town's economy.
Gary Doak and Larry
Jeffrey have been named
honorary. chairmen of the
Goderich Memorial Arena
Fund Raising Committee
which gets underway . im-
mediately.
Initial efforts to raise
money for a new arena roof
were given a good start with.
two -large dona`':'. s• from
service groups.
The Goderich L `:''s Club
voted' at their Thursday,
meeting to donate $20,000 to
the fund and at a Tuesday
luncheon meeting the Rotary
Club pledged $5,000 to the
fundraising efforts.
A community center grant
and a Wintario grant will
realize a large portion of the
project, a :total of $112,000 of
$225,000 needed.
The town has a new bylaw
now .which is an agreeriient
between the town and the
Goderich Trotting and
Agricultural Association. ,
The crux of this agreement
is a two -dollar sum paid for
the use of the facilities plus a
further $1,000 to be- paid in
two instalments each year of
the five-year contract.
JUNE 24 .:
The June. 17 meeting of the
Jubilee 3 Organizing Com-
mittee brought forth names of
various, persons to serve on
sub -committees to help plan
celebrations for the town's
150th birthday. A covered
wagon will be used to ad-
vertise • the coming
celebration at ?airs and
parades across the province:
To add to the excitement of
the festivities, Her Majesty
Queen Elizabeth will be in-

,land.
Roy Breckenridge, town
building inspector, claims the
Fincher fence is at least 18
inches and as much as three
feet on town -owned property.
Raglan Street, according to
Mr. Breckenridge, has a 66 -
foot road allowance despite
the fact that the street ap-
pears to be narrow. The
engineer would simply
measure 33 feet from the
cent,.. of Raglan Street to
de ante where the Fincher
p, .. •rty begins.
•ae Goderich Tourist

new summer program which
should , be of interest to
visitors passing through this

perhaps the statesman of
town -structures, with the
intention of preserving it as a
