The GDCI wrestling team was active last ,week, travelling to Parkhill for a dual meet Thursday and takingpart in a tournament in Exeter, Saturday, The Vikings lost in overall points to Parkhill by. a 40-36 score. Unable to field ° a= full squad because of a lack of competitors in the .three upper weight classes, the Vikings were forced to forfeit these bouts. Coaches . Ray Donnelly and Bob Dick are hoping to find, wrestlers for these categories, but if they do not, the Vikingst,,will have little chance of doing well as a team in the Huron -Perth Conference or of winning tournaments. The Vikings have many new wrestlers in the lower weight categories and coaches Donnelly and. Dick, are confident these wrestlers will improve with experience. Its is in the middle weight categories that the Vikings' strength appears to lie, Rick Todd, at 130 pounds, Dwight Issacs, at 136, Steve Palmer" at 141 and Mike Hawkins, at 157 pounds all won their snatches by pins. Mike Jeffery .won his 123 pound match by default. Also competing. were Harold Sartori -at 84 pounds, Bob Tigert at 98 pounds, Bill Tigert, at 106 pounds, Rick 'Carman at 115 pounds and Chris Wood at 148 pounds. Competing in weight classes already filled were Bill Shewfelt, Jack Miller and Al Watson. . The loss leaves the Suns with seven wins and five losses in WOAA league play. Despite the loss, Suns'coach Richard Madge was en- couraged by the play of his team. Defensively, the Suns played well, finishing their checks consistently. Although they could only score once, coach Madge feels if the Suns continue to pass the puck as NW NIP uMN . well as, they did Saturday, the goals will start to come. The Suns, perhaps en- couraged by the visit of Santa Claus who came on the ice before, the game to wish them well and distribute goodies to members of both teams, held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period." John Thompson completed a three-way passing play- from line -mates Daryl Madge and Grant Garrowfor the Suns' goal.
