Ontario will get an ex-
tended form of rent" control
next year which could carry
on the controversial program
for another, 18 months.
Premier William Davis said
rent controls cannot be ended
independently of the Federal
Government's Anti -Inflation
program. Ontario's present
two -year -program °oflimiting
rent increases to 8 per cent
annually is due to expire next
July 31, The Anti -Inflation
program is set to run until the
end of 1978.
"As long as we have Anti -
Inflation Board regulations it
is clear that . we must also
have some form of rent
controls", Mr. Davis told the
Legislature in winding up the
budget debate as the last
item, before the House
prorogued for the winter.
With the support of the
from Queen's Park
Liberals the minority
Progressive Conservative
Government easily survived
a final New Democratic
Party non -confidence mcittion
critical of its fiscal policies.
Du'r'ing the wrap-up speech
the Premier called for the
resignation of the New,
"Democrat Edward Ziemba's
seat in the Legislature. Mr.
Ziemba admitted that he had
made available to the press
information on doctors', in-
comes that . the Public
Accounts . Committee ;had
voted ., to keep confidential.
Mr. Davis also called on Bud
Germa (NDP, Sudbury) to
resign as, • Chairman of the
Public Accounts 'Committee
because he called a special
, meeting of ;the Committee at
short notice to receive the
reports of doctors' incomes
from OHIP before the Ontario.

-Members of the Legislature
felt disappointment, disgust
and anger at the conduct of
those members of the Public
Accounts Committee who
exposed doctors to cheap,`
underhanded and malicious
politicking that made it look
as though the doctors had
dome ' something wrong.
"'Certainly the Committee has
a right to the:information but
it acted irresponsibly in
making it public.
The ` Minister of Natural
Resources has now stated
that he has had second
thoughts about wanting to
close down or- lease out all
public campsites in the
Province. He has now told the
Legislature that this is not his
wish, althoughhe had
previously said that "the
long-termidea is to phase out
overnight camping in
provincial parks".
The Minister claimed he
was misreported, saying
"there will be no closing of
any campgrounds and parks
in Ontario nor will there be
any reduction in the amount
TRUCKING - BACKHOE DOZER SERVICE of campsites available to the
public'.
He confirmed that many
campgrounds would be

Rent control for another year'
his earlier statements that
those not leased would
eventually be closed down,
commenting "the in-
terpretation of the media has
changed my mind".
Ontario's. Public Accounts
Committee has recom-
mended to the Legislaturea
complete audit of those who
received first time home
buyers grants., and that the
Minister of Revenue should
"recover all payments made
either in error or illegally, by
the. end of 1977". Last week
Liberal MPP David Peterson
(London Centre), • said all
88,000 people who received
the grants should be audited,
commenting that the ad-
ministration of the program
had been "just awful" and
has "dealt a serious blow' to
the Government's
credibility". ' A partial audit
showed that more than $1.2
million was paid to people
ineligible for grants.
- . A bill to create . a unified
family court in Ontario has.
been tabled in the
Legislature, which. would
mean that for the first time,
one judge in .one court would
be able to deal with such
related issues as property,
support or custody •of
children, rather than these
matters going to various
courts. The court would have

After a week of persistent
questioning by Liberal
'Leader Stuart 'Smith, the
Minister of Natural
Resources admitted that a
work order allowing a Sud-
bury man to drill for uranium
ofe in a lake used by the City
as a source of drinking water
was cancelled -two days after
it was issued. The can-
cellation came after ministry
.officials tried unsuccessfully
to reach the man to persuade
him to agree to defer drilling

orders will have to conform to

The Solicitor -General was
questioned by Liberals Pat
Reid (Rainy River) and
David Peterson (London

senior OPP officerhad been
in touch with his counterpart
in Quebec to find out how to
go about obtaining a public
inquiry into organized crime
in Ontario, and a Quebec
prosecutor's statement that ..;,
there is more organized.
crime in Ontario, than there
is in Quebec.
The Attorney General in-
terjected that this report was
nonsense, and the Solicitor -
General repeated his earlier
assertions that senior police
officials ,had warned him
holding an inquiry would do
more harm than good. He

An Old Fashioned Fairy Tale Christmas. That's the feeling both
Children and'Adults alike can't help but feel when they visit Santa at
his Park Headquarters.
The Cabin, set up in the Court House Park, is a reproduction of early..
Homesteading in this area. Some say the cabinis very much like Tiger
Dunlop's original home located in Harbour Park;. overlooking• Lake
Huron.
The Shoppers -Square Association contacted' Santa Claus at his North
Pole headquarters and arranged to have him make the log cabin, in the
centre of Shoppers Square, his headquarters.
Thanks must go out to the Jubilee Three. Committee who had the log
cabin brought to Goderich in connection with this town's 150th Bir-
thday. Once Santa returns to the North Pole it will assume it s original
-purpose as Jubilee Three Registration Headquarters for all
Sesquicentennial events in 1977.
Pictured above and to the right, children from Queen
Elizabeth School are enthralled with Santa in his
headquarters.
