The majorettes are always cute and I know the .kids would enjoy the fine looking Santa in all his glory. I hope he had -his elves with him and lots of treats. I missed it all ...I really did ! I_ understand you've been 'having snow and.Christrnassy weather ... puts you- in the mood for cards and giftsand such: Herex I just can't get in the mood, NOHOW! Last week we had some cool weather. it • went below 40 .,degrees for a few nites and the days were 'cloudy and. wind cold and spasmodic rain... We spent one whole day and night right indoors never peeping • outside. But that's only one day, the other "cold weather" has been won- derful. 1 only hope I never' need that coat'I didn't bring. The stores are stuffed with goodies and the TV ads are full of things like bottle cutters and buttoneers and ordinary things you might buy any time, but they seem to be pushed mostly at Christmas. —Not • much Christmas music but who can -think of it when there's no snow? West. Venice Avenue a handsome street which runs from the bridge to the Gulf of Mexico a double isidd.with-a centre . boulevard with a fine double row of palm trees, is now decorated beautifully. The "Christmas cards - three by four feet an. d larger - are. standing along the boulevard on both sides and thanks to the artists in this area, are very lovely. The main topic of conversation seems to be giiests for the holiday - so,rnany;people are having folks fror ,th.e north. I hope my "folks": -are able to make it. How did the three nights of putting a fresh beard on Dr. Mike Watts go? Speaking of beards the V.L.T. have . •a play coming up requiring ten •- mostly long - beards. The director has asked me to make the beards real hair and all - a big job. I'll be Ale to make wigs after this workout; but I'm looking forward to .it as there is. no way you can make up beards every night for two weeks. We are just a short distance from Port , Charlotte and between here and there, there is an area where streets were laid out paved and all -,then never used. This is where the small planes have been dropping down vliith their illegal cargoes and there has been lots of e1Ccitement. When you go for a spin over this area it is easy to see why these people choose those roads as landing fields - they .=,l,00k easy - and there are lots of them. With the parcel service people out on strike the post office has been flooded with the parcels and even sending things at the beginning of the month. I doubt they would reach Canada before Christmas., It looks pretty bad. The stacks and bags : of cards and letters are very heavy and take twice asjong as ...they should in reaching their destination..I want all my friends to know that I think of them all and in- dividually n dividually OFTEN - and wish them all happy holidays and the best of everything in _the New Year. H The December meeting of the Maple Leaf Chapter IODE took the form of a dinner meeting in St. George's Parish Hall on Thursday; December 9. Mrs. Peter *Strickland, Mrs. McGee and Mrs.. iohn Stringer were in charge of arrangements. • - Small gifts were exchanged by the' members and mind - stimulating games were, enjoyed after the delicious dinner was served... The Regent convened, the meeting which followed and the Table Flags were on display. Mrs. Don Aberhart gave a report on. the Chapter's float entry in the town parade. - 'Early Canadian Christmas.' It was decided to, send -the, Signal -Star picture •;of the nursery school chii-dzen. enjoying the edibles on the tree to the IODE national magaiine, Echoes. Mrs. Ralph Smith, Services Secretary, gave a family progress•report on Jan Choon Sim the group'siadopted child of Korea. This report came . from CANSAVE and -told that Choon Sim has won several awards for her scholarship and hopes to one day become •a bank clerk. The Chapter responded to a request froth the Christmas Bureau of the Children's Aid. Society. This is a totally voluntary funded program and the members voted to. request .the Chapter donation be used to buy gifts ' for 'teenagers. Mrs. W. Has Mem- bership Secretary, bro ht forward .
