vx.vxv:Merchants and Old Timers to face off
The Goderich Oldtimers
and the Goderich Merchants
intend to square off in an
exhibition game on
December 28 in Vanastra
pitting puck control against
speed. The Oldtimers, fresh
from .a 6-3 triumph in Kin-
cardine recently, allowed
their excitement to get the
best of them and challenged
the Intermediate D squad to a
game.
The Oldtimers , rules will,
prevail ' for the match. The
Merchants will be given the
gate' for such misdemeanors
as bodychecking and slap -
shots; the former being the
means by which the Old-
timers hope to take ad
,vantage of the younger legs.
The slightly aged stars have
• adopted.a crisp, passing game
due to the rules in their
league that eliminates body
centact.
The passing attack and
puck control will test the
younger legs _ .of the Mer-
chants who are in sixth place
in their South Huron Hockey
League; A dozen games into
the season and the Merchants
already have three players
with 10 or more goals and two
with half that many. Cam
MacDonald leads his .club in
goals with 15 followed by Paul
Corriveau and Ron Whetstone
with 10, each, and Jim Bell
with six and Milt Place with
five.
The high scoring liners
from the Merchants will have
to skate -miles to close down
the Oldtimers.-Fresh out of
seniorand intermediate
hockey the 35 to 50 year old
players can still play the
game -and are working
diligently on conditioning to
prepare themselves for. their
European tournament in
Marchi The Oldtimers have
Mike Russelo, Ed Rowe and
Lloyd Lounsbury`between the
pipes getting protection from
Bill Fritzley, Harold Leddy,
John PlillTps, Don Elliott,'
