The -Auburn Snowmobile
Club held their second
meeting in, the Auburn
Community Memorial hall
with the new president James
Schneider in the chair: The
minutes of the first meeting
were read by Chuck Kerr and
the books were turned over to
the new secretary, Mrs. Keith
Rodger. Plans were made for
cook -outs with Conveners
being Mr. and Mrs. Frank
VanDongen and Mr. and Mrs.
William Robertson.
The Club . received word
that they could use the club
house for another season so a'
donation was sent to Knox
Presbyterian Church,
Goderich, to their. Scout
Group. A ' Christmas party
. with Santa, Claus and gifts is
being planned for December
19th at 2 p.m. to be held at the
Clubhouse. The Drivers
Training course was
discussed and it was stated
that Chuck Kerr had passed
the course put .on by the
Ontario Federation
'Snowmobile Clubs and is now
a .qualified teacher. Anyone
wishing information on the
. coursethat is. being offered
please pick up the forms at
Seer's restaurant. The course
is to train persons how to
operate and tell all the safety
aspects of snowmobiling. The
meeting was adjourned on
motion. of Gordon Daer and

Arnold Cook, of RR1
Belgrave had the top indexing
boar among the 88 boars in
the December group which
completed test at the Ontario
Test Station, New Hamburg.
Close behind the Cook.
Yorkshire, which had a
performance index of 140
were three Yorkshire boars
from the herd • of Wm. J.
Turnbull, . Brussels with in-
dices of 135, 138, and 133.
Arnold ° Cook's top test
station "graduate" combined
low backfat thickness •of :52
inches, average daily gain of
2.29 pounds per day and feed
conversion of 2.42 pounds feed
per pound gain. The three
Yorkshire boars 'from the
Wm. Turnbull herd had the
following outstanding
average: backfat thickness
.54 inches, average daily gain
2.24 pounds and feed con-
version of 2.38.
Also in the top six indexing
boars were two Duroc X
Landrace crosses from the
herd of Dan Lester, Forest.
The . Performance Index
now being .used at the Test
Station evaluates the overall.
performance of each boar
while on test and combines
- the important economic traits
of backfat thickness, average
daily gain and feed con-
version into one composite
index. ,.
The average performance
index of each group is always
100 and indices of individual
boars can range from ap;
pEeximately 140 down , to
below' 50. Only those boars
with a satisfactory per-
formance• index and which
are approved by a committee
for physical soundness are
offered for sale at the mon-
thly station tested boar sales
held at the Test Station RR2
New Hamburg (4 (mites west
of New Dundee).
Thirty-one of the top boars
in the December group in-
cluding "the top indexing ones
mentioned above will be sold
at the Test Station on
December 23 at 1:30 p.m.

Christmas topic -The

Institute was held in Colborne
Township Hall, Thursday.
The President, Mrs. Earl

a splendid attendance.
The meeting opened_ yvith
the Opening Ode, the- Mary
Stewart Collect and all joined
in singing one of. the
Christmas Carols "0 Come
all ye Faithful" with Mrs. Ila
Bean at the piano.

Extension and Improvement,

Council was advised that.
three light covers are
required for the street lights
in Dungannon, and that
Ontario Hydro had requested
'authority to order them. The
Clerk was directed to contact
Ontario Hydro to have the
covers ordered and to inquire
about procedures to be
followed to install additional
lights in the village.

authorized the Road
Superintendent to advertise
for tenders to supply a half
ton pick-up truck for the
township.

All the guests seemed in
especially good voice ' and
some interesting harmony
was heard in various corners
of the room. No-one really felt
like giving up even at the end
of the song sheet 'although they
session had been quite long.
