Plans were made for cook -outs with Conveners being Mr. and Mrs. Frank VanDongen and Mr. and Mrs. William Robertson. The Club . received word that they could use the club house for another season so a' donation was sent to Knox Presbyterian Church, Goderich, to their. Scout Group. A ' Christmas party . with Santa, Claus and gifts is being planned for December 19th at 2 p.m. to be held at the Clubhouse. The Drivers Training course was discussed and it was stated that Chuck Kerr had passed the course put .on by the Ontario Federation 'Snowmobile Clubs and is now a .qualified teacher. Anyone wishing information on the . coursethat is. being offered please pick up the forms at Seer's restaurant. The course is to train persons how to operate and tell all the safety aspects of snowmobiling. The meeting was adjourned on motion. of Gordon Daer and Chuck Kerr. Christina of London visited on Cook boar gains top indexing Arnold Cook, of RR1 Belgrave had the top indexing boar among the 88 boars in the December group which completed test at the Ontario Test Station, New Hamburg. Close behind the Cook. Yorkshire, which had a performance index of 140 were three Yorkshire boars from the herd • of Wm. J. Turnbull, . Brussels with in- dices of 135, 138, and 133. Arnold ° Cook's top test station "graduate" combined low backfat thickness •of :52 inches, average daily gain of 2.29 pounds per day and feed conversion of 2.42 pounds feed per pound gain. The three Yorkshire boars 'from the Wm. Turnbull herd had the following outstanding average: backfat thickness .54 inches, average daily gain 2.24 pounds and feed con- version of 2.38. Also in the top six indexing boars were two Duroc X Landrace crosses from the herd of Dan Lester, Forest. The . Performance Index now being .used at the Test Station evaluates the overall. performance of each boar while on test and combines - the important economic traits of backfat thickness, average daily gain and feed con- version into one composite index. ,. The average performance index of each group is always 100 and indices of individual boars can range from ap; pEeximately 140 down , to below' 50. Only those boars with a satisfactory per- formance• index and which are approved by a committee for physical soundness are offered for sale at the mon- thly station tested boar sales held at the Test Station RR2 New Hamburg (4 (mites west of New Dundee). Thirty-one of the top boars in the December group in- cluding "the top indexing ones mentioned above will be sold at the Test Station on December 23 at 1:30 p.m. As all boars at the Test Station are fed and handled under uniform conditions, buyers can be sure that superior performanoenis due to true genetic superiority for Ic$W backfat, fast gains and good .feed conversion which will be passed on t� the pigs they sire. the weekend with ' Mrs. Frances Clark. The December__meeting of the' Auburn Presbyterian Women's Missionary Society was held last Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs,. Frances Clark. The president Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson was in charge and opened the Meeting with a poem - The Little Christ Child. The hymn. was read and scripture lessons re Christmas and the birth of Jesus were read by Mrs. Sanderson, Mrs. Frank Raithby, Mrs. Roy Daer and Mrs. John Hallam, and Miss Minnie Wagner. The hymn -Wise men :seeking Jesus was read by Mrs. Eleanor • Bradnock, The Christmas topic -The Rebellious Shepherd was the inspiring message given by Mrs. Frances Clark. Kaitting WOMEN'S INSTITUTE The December Meeting -•of Tiger Dunlop Women's Institute was held in Colborne Township Hall, Thursday. The President, Mrs. Earl Sherwood, . welcomed all present and in spite of the .inclement weather there was a splendid attendance. The meeting opened_ yvith the Opening Ode, the- Mary Stewart Collect and all joined in singing one of. the Christmas Carols "0 Come all ye Faithful" with Mrs. Ila Bean at the piano. The toll call - "Exchange Christmas Recipes or ideas" was' answered by 23 mem- bers. Minutes of last meeting were read and adopted. School. for the course "Quilts, Achievement Day for •4-H Course "The Cereal Shelf" will be at Brookside School Saturday, December 18, and it was moved by Mrs. -Buchanan and .seconded .by Mrs. Edna.Moore that we pay the leaders the.usual amount: Due to the heavy winter weather to date and that the Training School for the "Quilts" project will be in Janizary it was decided not to participate in this at this time. The Institute will be catering to the Signal Star Banquet January. -7 with the committee in charge Mrs. Maitland Montgomery, .Mrs. Wm. Clifford, Mrs. Arnold Young and Mrs. Gerald Feagan. Mrs. G. Kaitting gave the. report of the London Area Convention of the Women's .Institute held in Tillsonburg November 9 and 10 that she• attended as Delegate: ' The Theme of the Convention was Court of "Let us' Take Time for All Things". Mrs. .William Clifford"then took the part of Santa in the exchange of gifts. Allof the members then enjoyed a pot luck lunch of Christmas goodies during which Mrs. Henry Brindley and Mrs. Gordon • Kaitting demonstrated making ribbon roses. •Merry Christmas was extended to all. CHRISTMAS CONCERT Colborne Central School Christmas Concert Monday evening December 20th at 8:00. p.m. Students will participate in the Basketball Free Throw at St. Mary's School Friday, December 17 at 3:00 p.m. School will be closed for . West Wawanosh Councillor• Cranston declined to act due to an expressed conflict of interest when the council met 'on December 7 sitting, as a Court of Revision on the Smyth Municipal Drain Extension and Improvement program. Councillor ;Foran- w-as•not pr`e'sent for the court. A motion by Councillors Hickey and Stothers opened the Court of Revision on the Smyth Municipal Drain Extension and Improvement, and appointed three . mem- •bers of Council to act as members of the Court. Reeve Lyons, and Councillors Hickey and Stothers sub= scribed to the Oath of a Member of a Drainage Court of Revision. .w - The .Clerk 'Dead the one complaint received, and after lengthy discussion by the complainant, engineer, J. A. McBride, and Council, a Motion by Court .Members Stothers and Lyons dismissed the appeal'of M. Johnston and the assessments in the Report were upheld. A motion by Councillors Cranston and Stothers opened the" Court of Revision on the Redmond Municipal Drain and appointed Councillors Cranston, Hickey and Stothers as members of the Court. Since the Clerk had received no appeals on the assessrnents,.in this Drain and no owners` in the Drain ap.. peared before the Court, a motion by Members Stothers and Dickey. upheld• the Revision Mr. and .Mrs. Fordyce Clark andMrs-: Celia ,T ylor called on friends in the village last Sunday. The annual Carol Service will, be held this year on December 24 at 8 p.m. in Knox United Church, Auburn. The Youth of the Church will present the service. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ball and Brenda and Mr. and Mrs. Randy Machan, Auburn, Daryk Ball, London attended graduation exercises Sunday, December 12 at University of Wisconsin,- Madison Wisconsin, when Daryl Ball graduated with his B.Sc. in Agriculture. • engineer's assessments and closed the Court of Revision on the Redmond Municipal Drain. - At this point Council commenced to conduct the'` necessary business of the Township. The minutes were read and adopted on motion---- of Councillors Cranston and Hickey. Gordon Smyth presented a petition for drainage to Council, after which a brief discussion ensued with engineer, J. A. McBride, who had remained after the Court of Revision at Council's request. Council chose to await advice from the Drainage Coordinator before making a decision to accept' the Petition. Council was advised that. three light covers are required for the street lights in Dungannon, and that Ontario Hydro had requested 'authority to order them. The Clerk was directed to contact Ontario Hydro to have the covers ordered and to inquire about procedures to be followed to install additional lights in the village. A motion. by Councillors., Stothers and loran authorized the Road Superintendent to advertise for tenders to supply a half ton pick-up truck for the township. The road accounts were ordered paid on motion of Councillors Cranston and Foran. •Smorgasbord and carol sing. featured at Art Club event' Dr. and Mrs. Wm. Watters again this year graciously opened their home for the Goderich Art Club Christmas. party. President Mrs. Wm. McWhinnie assisted in receiving about 40 guests as Well as some outside friends of the club. Everyone scattered among several festively decorated rooms to greet acquaintances - and drink punch. Others gathered around the ppee-fire in the _ large livingroomto Chat and await the call to a delicious smorgasbord, the various dishes having been prepared and brought by the guests. • . President Mrs. Mc,Whinnie distributed charming cor- sages to the ladies from a decorated basket, all of which she had made for the oc- casion. After supper everyone gathered around the piano while Edwina McKee played and . Lu Legg led a lusty session of carol singing as well as fun songs. • All the guests seemed in especially good voice ' and some interesting harmony was heard in various corners of the room. No-one really felt like giving up even at the end of the song sheet 'although they session had been quite long.
