Planned, Parenthood organizer Dave Weary has been•at
work over the past week setting up the new 'Planned
Parenthood drop-in center in Goderich at 67 North Street. -
The first job at hand has been the sorting and arrangement.
for display of hundreds of information pamphlets which the
new office will be distributing free of charge.. Until more
volunteers are trained the drop -1n center will. only be open
between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. -and 7:00 and 9:30 p.m. on •
Mondays. Anyone seeking information may call 524-91.45 at
anytime, however. (staff photo)

Two ingredients make a
baby: One egg cell from a
wornan=s body, 'one 'sperm•
celi from a man's. One thing
gets' them together: The act
of sexual intercourse. Two
things - and only two keep
them apart: .Not having in-
tercourse at all, _ or birth
control that works... • •
That- statement, .of . clear
.concise fact, is included in the
introduction to,;„ one of hun-
dreds • of. information pain=
phlets available through. the
recently opened offices of the
Goderich Planned Paren-
thood group. That particular
booklet is 'entitled., "Birth

The. Planned Parenthood,
publication goes on to note,
"Not having intercourse is
still the only guaranteed way
to prevent. pregnancy. But
except fol•" that, these are the
,.surest methos of 'protection
known today; as close to 100•
percent effective as you can
get."
Them like the maiority of
the: information items,

range of birth . control
methods availabre • to ma
and female alike.
Planned Parenthood is an
international organization
according to local organizer
Dave Weary. He explains that
in the United States it
receives considerable fun-
ding . assistance from the
American Government.while
here in Canada it. receives
some support from the
Federal Government' an.d, in
the case of Goderich, splits
the cost of•office rent with the
Huron County Health Unit.,
This recently opened office
is situated at 67 North Street
and, for the moment, is open
Mondays between 3:00 and
6:00 p.m. and 7:00. and 9:30
p.m. , Office hours will be
extended when • Planned
Parenthood volunteers
complete training.
• Telephone inquiries can be
directed at any time through
529-9145. All calls, Mr. Weary
stressed, are strictly con
fidential.
At present the new group is
actively seeking more
volunteers to help operate its
new office. These volunteers
will receive training through
the 'co-operation of . the
Toronto Planned Parenthood
organization.
Membership support is also
sought. • The .membership fee
is $2.00 with funds' going
toward. support of the North
Street drop-in centre.
Planned Parenthood invites
anyone interested in the work
of the group, or anyone,
seeking information to stop
by the center any Monday for
a cup of coffee and any 'in-
formation or assistance the
group might provide:
Perhaps the introduction to
another of the • pieces of
literature available sums up
the philosophy of Planned
Parenthood. "This booklet is
for you, for the family you
will someday form, and for
the children you will welcome
into your family.,with love."
Dept. of Transport finds
Bluewater cable okay
Bluewater Cable TV, which
serves . Clinton, Goderich,
Holmessville and Vanastra,
-is providing the best service
possible, given. the kind of TV
signals they have.to work'
with.That is the assessment of
the Canadian Department of
.Transport who carry out
:periodic checks on the system
to __ se_e . if ' it is. , pravidi ig
adequate service.
David Ronaldson of the
London district office of the
e fe era epa x► said the
Cable compares can only.
pass on a signal as good as
what is received at the an-
tenna. They cannot improve
it if it is bad, whatever the
reasons.
Mr. Ronaldson says the
Department, .which is a
watchdog over 23,000 radio
stations in • the London
district, including 14,000 CB
radios classifies TV signals:
into three categories, ac-
cording to the distance they
are from the emitting source,
or TV station.
• In the best category, called
the "A" contour, Bluewater
has only one station, Channel
8 Wingham. "A" contour
stations are 30 miles or less
from the Cable TV antenna.
Inthe second best category,
or BB" contour, are other
stations from 30 to 60 miles
away, and include. Channel
10, London; Kitchener, 13;.
Global, 6; and London
education, 18.
• The rest of the stations on
Bluewater's dial, namely,
Windsor, 9; Hamilton, •1 1 ;
Detroit, 2; Detroit, 4; Detroit
7; and Bay City 5; are in what

receiving area.
Mr. Ronaldson said the
reception from the marginal
stations can vary from good
to almost .nil, depending on.a
number of factors,. including
weather conditions. 'Even the • :reception from
the "B" contour stations can
vary because of poor weather
:conditions_____;. •
The department of tran-
sport does aperiodic random
check of Bluewater's signal
by going into different homes
and monitoring the cable.
"We found that the picture
distribution on cable is a
faithful reproduction of that
received at the head end (or
an`tte na site),'' Mr.
Ronaldson said.
He also said if people have
a complaint to make about
the cable system, then they
should phone Bluewater first,
as the company stand to lose
the most if their customers
aren't happy.
Mr. Rorialdson said that,
sometimes an amplifier along
the sy_te_kolikilt malfunctiQi , ;
and .that Bluewater would
want to know about it right
away. y
Mr. Ronaldson 'also4added
that it takes three times as
much signal strength to
produce color as black and
white,' so that is why 'color
may vary in the .more.distant
stations..
