What special abilities
would you bring to the Public
Utilities Commission?
I have been a resident of
Goderich for the past 40 years
and have been in business for
23 years. '
I have also served 12 years
in all capacities of the
Goderich Public Utilities
Commission which I feelis
valuable experience.
Do you, as a candidate, feel
you have the time necessary
to attend all meetings of the
Public Utilities Commission

What. __ special abilities
would you bring to the Public
Utilities Commission? -
'Having ' conducted a
business in Goderich for over
30 years, I feel I owe some
service, to the Town uof.
Goderich 'which means so
much to me.
• Being in direct contact•with
the citizens', I feel I can
contribute ideas to • the
operationof the Public
Utilities. I do think that old-
fashioned common sense is
essential in dealing with the
matters of Utility business.
Do you, as a candidate, feel
you have the time necessary
'to attend all meetings of the
Public Utilities Commission
and to be in attendance
during, the whole of those
, meetings ?0 •
I have served as a Com-
missioner for the 'past 'four.
years, and. during this period
I have not missedone regular
or special meeting, and, of,
course, was .present for the
entire meeting. .
.If: elected I would plan to

well as, being .available for'
any emergency meetings or
problems that might develop
during the day. •

Town Council?
I feel that the Public
UtilitiesCommission serves a
definite purpose. •
It takes some of the work
load from the Town Council;
however, we work very
closely with the Town Council
and ,pur Mayor. sits ,in on all
meetings.
What motivates you to seek
election to.. the Goderich
Public Utilities Commission?
I have always been : in-
terested in local politics and
follow it with great interest.
For the past 12 years, I
have tried to work with other
members on the Board
harmoniously as well as
council, and the Public's
interests are always at heart.
Mese are very trying times
for people who have to live on
fixed incomes and i I am
deeply interested in what we
can do to make Goderich a
better place in which to live.
Does the local .Public
Utilities Commission .• have.
the expertise necessary • to
provide the installation of
servicing to' modern business
and industry?
I believe: that our, em-
ployees and Manager do have
the expertise necessary to
provide servicesto modern.
business and industry. They
have the qualifications to
work and maintain high
voltage lines in Goderich, as
well . as erect our own sub-
stations within the
municipality. Our four senior
employees, have -a total of
over 90 years• experience in
,electrical work.
During the severe ice storm
last winter in Exeter, our
employees helped' . to .res

Are Public Utility Com-
missions necessary or could
the affairs of public. -utilities
be conducted as well, and
with better communication,
by a standing committee of
Town Council? ..,
I do think that the Public
Utilities Commission serves a
definite purpose. Many.
citizens do not have sufficient
.time available to serve on
' Town Council, and welcome
the opportunity to serve as
Commissioners in the
Utilities.
I do think that in the near
f'uttire° - the utilities will be
absorbed . by Regional
Government.
What motivates you to seek.
election • to the Goderich
Puhlie-Utilities Commission?
I have always followed
local politic_ s` with great -in-
terest and, have very much
enjoyed worming with. the.
local Public Utility Com-
mission.
With' four years'experience
I would hope that< I could

What special abilities
would you bring to the Public
Utilities Commission?
With my nine years service
on Council, four. of those
• years as Mayor, and six years
as a Commissioner', I believe
I have the. experience to help
govern the Utilities over the
next two years: I have. also
been a member' of the
Industrial Commission for six
.•years„so I am not a,stranger
to the needs of industry. In
addition, having -been in the.
plumbing business all my life,
I have an insight into the
Water Utilities, its needs and
problems.
• 'Do you, as a candidate, feel
you have the time necessary
to attend -all meetings of the
Public Utilities Commission
and to be in- attendance
during the whole of those
meetings?.
During 1975 there were
fourteen meetings called for
the Public Utilities • Com-
mission, Town of Goderich,
including two special
meetings. I attended all the
meetings with the exception
of one.special meeting.
To date in 1976, including
November's regular meeting,
fifteen meetings have been
called, including three.
special meetings. I have
attended all the: meetings.
Does • the local Public
Utilities ' Commission have
the expertise necessary to
provide the installation of
servicing to modernbusiness
and industry?
Goderich ... Public Utilities
Conf'mission does have the
expertise toprovide services
to modern business and in-
dustry. Four of our senior
employees have over ninety
years experience providing
services •to industry and
business. We have built our
own sub stations and high
voltage lines,. and have
completely maintained the
same. The Utilities have
constructed, • and •now,
maintain all our water lines
with only a staff of three.
Last year we were told that
with heavy demand over the
Christmas period , Goderich .
might face `brown outs'. Can
the Goderich Public 'Utilities
Commission supply the power
necessary for new industry
locally, such as Borg War-
ner?
The Goderich Public
Utilities Commission can
supply any new local industry
such as Borg Warner,' and
another dozen plants like
them, and . more, with no
problem.
The problem regarding -
brown' outs will occur, only if
Ontario. Hydro faces shor-
be a conducted as well, and
with better communication,
by a standing committee of
Town Council? '
Councils as a rule have too
many Committees, with
numerous meetings and
problems, without the added
burden of administering
Public Utilities. With the
revenue of the • Goderich
Public Utilities well over
$2,000,000:00 in 1976,it is in-
deed a full time job for a
separate body to administer
it. Also, if a committee. of
council were in control,•
political pressures could
unduly affect the sound
operations of the system.
As for better com-
munications, ' many
thousands of dollars are spent
each year by'•OntarioeHydro,
and 'your Utilities, to •com-
inunicate with the customers
on r'adio., TV and newspapers.,

What motivates you to seek
election to the Goderich
Public Utilities Commission,?
I -_guess the same things
motivate me to seek re-
election t the Commission as
have motivated me in the
past to serve on the Council,
right through from Councillor
to Mayor, and- then on to the '
P.U.C. - that is, civic pride,
my concern for our town and
its citizens, my interest in the
industrial development and.
how it affects our Utilities,
and last, but not least, my
desire to help administer our
Utilities for the benefit of our
Town, and its future
