Other goal scorers for Goderich we're Geoffrey King and Mike King . with a pair each: -and Ian Lanny Chisholm and Robert Pinkney . scoring singles. Doug Cruickshank chipped in with four assists. Kevin Bundy, although not tested heavily, turned in a solid game in goal. Clinton goal scorers were J. Colelough and R. Castle. The game turned into a lacklustre effort by the teams after thea first period with G.oderich leading . 7-0. The smaller Clinton team just didn't have the size nor strength to skate with the faster and bigger Goderich club. However, Monday night in Seaforth, the Rangers ran into a pesky .Seaforth team losing 4-1.. The -game featured heavy hitting and good two- way !-.kating by both clubs. Sr atorth opened the scoring in the fiat period on a goal by Gerry Barringer. Early in the sec'ond, the OPP Rangers tied the score on. -a goal by Brian Reed. However, 48 seconds later Sea,l'orth took the lead again when Pa di Cartier 'cashed .in on some sloppy Goderich defense work. Less than three minutes later the Seaforth team put the game away for good when - Chuck Stewart beat Ranger. goalie Kevin Bundy with a high shot after picking up a .rebound. Berringer rounded out the scoring in the third period. with his second. goal of the night. Steelers down Listowel to remain undefted Lakeport Steel bantams thumped . After only two minutes of play, Jim Costello and John Clement rushed up, the ice and con- nected with Mike Hodges who scored the first goal for the -Steelers. Minutes later Hodges and Rob Trebish combined for Goderich's second goal for a_fir.st period score of2 - 0. • Steeler's third and fourth goals carne early. in the second period. Mike Hodges -- picked up a loose ptick in the Goderich enol and scored on a breakaway and then Rob Trebish scored on a three way play from Danny Maillett and Larry Madge. The Lakeport Steel Ban- tams play their next game on Saturday night inVanastra at 7 p.m. when theyplay host to Hanover and then Sunday night at Hanover,. in Vanastra when the Strathroy "BB" club comes --t0 'town for an exhibition game. . Suns end. Walkerto The Suncoast Estates Suns continued their winning ways in the WOAA Atom hockey Teague schedule with a pair of victories on the weekend. Saturday, at Vanastra, the Sun's edged Hanover, 3-2, and' Sunday, at Walkerton,; they defeated Walkerton by the same score. This marked the first time in over a year that the Walkerton Atoms had lost a game in their own rink:. Last season, Walkerton lost only dne game all year, that to the Suns, in Goderich. This season they had started where they left off by winning theirfirst seven games, but the Suns ended that streak with a fine effort Sunday. The Suns record -in league play is now six wins and one loss, while Walkerton is seven and one. Next game for the Suns is Saturday at 6 p.m. when Port .Elgin comes to Vanastra for the first time this season: Against Hanover, first° period goals by Daryl Madge, assisted by. Trevor Erb, and by John Thompson, assisted by wingers Ken Huff and Grant Garrow gave the Suns an early lead. .Hanover . captain Chris Ahrens scored the only goal of• the second period. A goal by Todd Grahams` assisted by Nick Trebish, restored the Sun's two goal lead near the nine minute mark of the.final period, but Paul Osborne scored for Hanover -with a minute and a.half remaining. • The Suns got good - goaltending from •both. Terry Bean and newcomer Randy Gaynor -who was playing in his first garne since being brought up from the houseleague. Sun's coach,' Richard Madge, paid tribute to the work being done with his goalies by goal=tending coach Chuck Jewell. "By mid season we will have the best goal tending in the league," said" Madge. . The game in Walkerton was • a fast exciting one, featuring end to end action which even made the _fathers` present forget they .mere •missing watching the Grey Cup game. Paul Bolton scored a goal for Walkerton in the first period, but Grant Garrow tied• it up, scoring Tor the Suns in the second. peewees league c • The Goderich Peewees improved their league record winning two . games last .weekend. On Saturday the peewees downed Mount Forest 5-2 in Mount Forest and then outlasted Port Elgin 10-7 in a game played in Vanastra on Sunday. Goderich scored three 'goals in the second period and ,'.. then added two in the final period to beat Moun Forest. Goderich opened e. scoring with three straight goals in the second period by Scott Ross, Colin Alexander and Brad - Armstrong. Mount Forest closed the gap with a tally in the third period before Dave Gallow. and Ross put the - -game out of reach with goals late in the period. Mount Forest added their other marker late in the period but 4 strea Mike Lapaine • and Bob Willis were stand -outs on the Ranger defense dishing ''out crushing .:body -checks throughout the night. With 5:14 remaining in the game, Seaforth's Tom Johnston was assessed a match penalty for spearing Ranger's Brian Reed. However, the Goderich club was unable to capitalize on the opportunity. The OPP Rangers next game is*Friday in Winghatn. The. next home game - is Sunday night in Vanastra at 7:30 against Seaforth. •Daryl Madge's goal at the 9:50 mark of Vie final 'frame put the Suns_ into the lead for the first •time. The goal was assisted by' Daryl 'Madge. - Walkerton fought hard for -the. equalizer, but good defensive play preserved the win for the Suns - ire two ntests-. were `-unable to mount a comeback: On Sunday the Liens got a three goal per£ormance:from Darrell Graham as they outlasted Port Elgin 10-7 in an offensive battle. Port Elgin scored mid -way through the first period to tie the score 2-2 before Graham, scored the go ahead goal late in the first period and com- pleted his hat trick with two goals just 20 seconds apart early in the second period. Dave Gallow and Scott Ross scored two goals each for -Goderich while team- mates Mark Crawford, Jim zithers and Colin Alexander added singles.
