on their 1976-77 basketball
season.
In an exhibition game here
Friday evening, .the GDCI
seniors blasted .Sarnia St.
Clair 69-42. The Vikings
showed fine defensive play
and'. an exciting offensive
pattern, although their
shooting, at 34 per sent was
less than devastating. The
game was the first for the
Vikings while for St, Clair it
represented their seventh
start.
A.. good crowd of some. 200
fans turned out for the first of
a series of Friday night
exhibitions planned by the
Vikings. Owen Sound will be
the visitors.this Friday, with
the junior game at 6:30 and
the senior contest at 8:00 p.m.
Dave Mackenzie _ led the -
Vikings against Sarnia ._with -a
20 -point ,effort. Greg Beacom
hooped 15 for the winners. Bill
Gauley had nine, and "Iain
Lambert six points for GDCI",,
Jeff Baechler, Perry Teichert
and Jon Barz each added four
while Bill Barwick had three
points, Mark Hovey two, and
Tim Doherty and Bill Walters
had one point each:
Bill Myles with 13 points
and Tim O'Reilly- with 10,
were Sarnia's best.
On Saturday the Vikings
standing high school players
in this part .of the province.
Northern led '9-2 during 'the
first quarter', but the Vikings
came back to Iead 13-12 by the
end of the first quarter.

victory over Mount Forest in
a league game played at
Vanastra last Friday.
Goderich opened up a two-
goal lead in the first period on
goals by Gar . Wunnink,
assisted by. Hugh Hanly and
then Paul Dougherty banged
in a pass from Rick Leddy
and Paul Helesic. Mount
Forest narrowed the margin
to one goal with a tally late in
the first period.
Goderich again increased
the margin to two goals
midway through the second.

Vikings had an easy time
defeating the host Petrolia
school, 56-25. The GDCI team
dominated the game
throughout, and nine players

by Bill Gauley with 22, and
Perry Teichert with 10.
Bogie's basket beats Sarnia

with 14 points: Dennis Don-
nelly scored eight points
-before fouling out and Mark
Alexander had 10 pointsfor
the Vikings. Kevin Daily was
the top scorer for Sarnia with
16 points followed by John
Stirrel with 12.
The Vikings used a full
court press to outplay the
Midgets

The GDCI- midget
basketball team was out-
classed in its FirSt encounter
of the year here Friday
evening against the Sarnia St.
Clair Colts.
The Colts used a full court
press which forced the young
Vikings into throwing the ball
away, and resulted in the lop-
sided 80-39 final score.
Mark Hay led St. Clair with
26 points, and Jim Crawford
had 18 for the winners.
High scorer for coach Lynn
Meyer's GDCI team was, Jim'
Costello with 10. Dan Maillet
had six while Martin McGee,
Steve GaIlow and Mark
Finlayson each had four
points.

Clair tied the score in the last
minute, setting the stage for
Bogie's winning field goal. St.
Clair brought the ball back
down the floor and got a shot
away a fraction of a second
