After welcoming tnembeis and visitors, Mrs. Thomas Haggitt introduced the guest speaker, the •Rev. William Craven of Goderich. His topic was Citizenship and World Affairs. He gave an im- pressive speech on Canadian Citizenship and stated that a new set of values has been placed. on citizenship. He said all should take a stand ,a's Canadians if, Canada- is to remain from coast td coast. It is up to every citizen to live „ the best way possible and to strive to keep Canada together, he advised. Mrs. Donald Cartwright thanked the speaker and presented him -with a gift. The minutes of the October meeting were accepted. as read by the secretary, Mrs. Donald, Haines. A letter was read from Miss. Helen McKercher, thanking for support during her term- as Director of Home Economics • Branch of the Department of Agriculture and Food. • The banquet on December 4th -will have •Mrs. Donald Haines and Mrs.. Gordon Powell as conveners. It was decided to buy -one dozen tea • towels and dish cloths for the hall. Plans were made to hold Family Night on November 26 in which the Horticulture members and their families J will be guests. Every family is asked, to bring something •• for the first course and something for dessert... The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Donald Cartwright • and Mrs. Frank Raithby will make quilt blocks for Erland Lee Home. All labels are to -he turned in to Mrs. Raithby to get more tea towels. Subscriptions t� the Federated News of 50 cents a year are to be given to Mrs. Haines efore the end -of the month. Mrs. Myrtle Munro had an elimination contest and the winner was Mrs. Donald Cartwright. The lucky dates winners were Mrs. Dorothy Cirange, and Miss Laura Phillips. In 1946 they moved to Springfield. Goderich died Monday in Alexandra Marine . and General Hospital. He was 56 • He was born on June 25, 1920 to Hugh and, Maggie (Scotland) Macfarland in Windsor, »OntaTio and later moved to Forest. He was married in London, Ontario to the former Margaret Elaine Sangster on October, 9, 1964 and moved to Goderich in September 1973. • He was an electrical engineer with Ontario Hydro and served overseas in the Second World War with the Essex Scottish Regiment. He was a Dieppe prisoner of war for two and a half years. He • was a member of •Knox Presbyterian Church and the Royal Canadian Legion. • • He is survived by his wife, two sons Jim and John, both at home; one » sister Miss Jessie Macfarland and brother . Hugh Macfarland, both of Windsor. - • The funeral service is to be held this afternoon at 2 p.m. at Stiles Funeral Home with the Reverend G.L, ,Royal officiating. Interment is at • Maitland Cemetery. • Donald Warren of Welland died at Roswell Park Mernorial Institute in Buf- falo, Monday, November 8. -He was 47. • He was born in Windsor and moved to Goderich in 1937. He moved to Welland in1944 and was active in sports in that community. Mr. Warren was a super- visor in the accounting • department of Stelco where he was employed for 20 years• , He is survived by his wife the former Anne Vlasic; one son Robert and one daughter Judith, both at home; his father John P. Warren, 123 West St., Goderich and one brother, Harold Warren of London.• He was predeceased by his mother Mrs. Velma Warren. Funeral service was held in St. David's Anglican Church with Canon Harold Thomasson officiating. Auk. hears topic on the blind President Mrs. Carlton Worsell presided at the November meeting of the Hospital Auxiliary to the Alexandra General and Marine Hospital. There ,was a good attendance to hear the encouraging reports. Christmas items are in the Gift Shop and customers are welcome tb visit the shop any afternoon from two to four o'clock. Calendars are available from members or at the Gift Shop. The Goderich Auxiliary hosted the Fall Conference of District No. 2 of the Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Ontario and received com- mendation from the president, Mrs. Orville Oke, of • Seaforth, for •a well organized conference. Special mention was made of the decorations. The conference convener, Mrs. J. Berry, and her committee had, used ships as the» theme to remind the guests that they were in the Port of Goderich. The -Sp ea e r for ' the November meeting was Mrs. Jack Watson of Clinton. She was introdUced by Mrs. Worsell. Mrs. Watson has had a very close association with the • Canadian National Institute for the Blind. She told how students were taught in a full curriqulum including musie. The speaker explained Braille, which is a system of raised dots for touch reading and writing by blind persons. Braille has become the most successful method of com- rnunication for the visually handicapped' person. The use of raised • dost has been *adapted ,.to many . aids and appliances and als,o in recreation and music. • There are 68 blind persons in the County of Huron. Some of these are active in the Blue Water Club which is basically social. Many articles crafted by sightless people were on display.
