New assistant manager
Chuck Jewell begins
when arena reedy
The •Goderich Recreation
Board unanimously agreed to
a recommendation from the
personnel committee on the
hiring of an assistant .arena
manager at their meeting
Thursday. ' • •
The committee selected
Chuck Jewell from a host of
applicants to the position of
,assistant arena mana.ger•at a
salary of $13,000. Jewell will
likely begin duty in the new
year; and• due to constructiop
the probationary period was
extended to a full year.
It is•.expected that the.arena
wili•be operational for Young
Canada .Week in March but
• the ice .will be taken out
,.immediately after,'
The board also agreed in.
principal to a•suggestion from
the Harbor committee that if
a third person is -hired for the
.arena staff that persoh would
act as Marina operator from
May to the •beginning of.
October. a•
The board. passed a motion.
calling for , the personnel
committee to.• make a
..recommendation. •
•' Harbor committee
chairman, Jim Peters,said
the . two jobs overlapped._
perfectly and would provide a
continuity in the jobs .and
.benefit the town. Board
member Bob Allen said the
scheme would work well but
should bedealt, with before •
the new year.
The motion also included a
- clause that the Marina would
come under the jurisdiction of
the recreation board to
eliminate.•the possibility ofa
third man laving two bosses.
Board ,member John
Doherty said the '. proposal
was a good suggestion but it
Wasnecessary to have it
'spelled out from the begin-
ning for the applicants that
the job would involve' both
arena and marina work.
The personnel' committee
.will review the 'proposal and
make a recommendation at
the neat meeting in.
November.
"Doctor, ' how long do I

"Crossing the .road, we once again
encountered our masked friend, this
time he was being chased ou t'of a horse
with a broom..
"He was last seen heading Orth on
Nairn Drive on all fours With his striped `.
tail dragging between his legs." •
According . to Mr. Kingsley;, this was'
probably the first: time ever that a real
racoon went trick or treating on
Halloween.'
"If you have a pet racoon who was out
all night and came home with a stotnach
ache, you now will know What caused
it," smiles Mr. Kingsley. •4, .
