He did not ha"the proper footwear for curling and thus had no control on the ice surface.. The classes are being handled by Ron Klages and attracted about 20 new curlers for the season. (Staff -photo) Amaaazln Oil The Amazing Oil Mart and .the Signal Stars• put on an.. impressive 'display of men's bowling Monday night, the Oil Mart impressing the Stars for seven points and a first place standing. Jim Harrison and Jim McWhinney led the Oil Mart to the perfect evening, Harrison grabbing a 392 singleand a 900 triple and McWhinney hitting a 340 single and 778 triple. The strongshowing by: the Oil •Mart was •absolute necessity as the Stars put together quite •an evening themselves. George Van- derburgh hit a 366 singlefor the Stars and turned it into an 840 three game effortwhile his teammate Paul Steep 'rolled a 304 single and had an 800 point e'bening triple,. The second garne of the three game set was the ••highlight df the evening as the Oil Mart totalled up 1,503 points and edged the St;irc by four, the Stars hitting for •1,499 team points, The Oil Mart have 38 points for a first place standing ' while The Stars slumped to a seventh place tie with the Hopefuls with 18 points. French Dry Cleaners rallied . behind Don McWh1nney and Kevin Rumig and swept the B.D.'s to stay close to the Oil Mart with 33 points, McWhinney had a 295 single and .a 760 triple while Rumig rolled a .44, 286 single and a 755 triple. Charles Jphnaton led the B.D.'s in one game totals with •a • 224 single while Brian Stothers• caught 'a 570 triple. The B.D.'s are.,now in eighth spot with 16 points. • The. Recalls hold on to a slim third place standing with thehelp of Charles Williams who"hit. a 222 single 'and 637-.. triple to give his team a two point night boosting, their does it' a total to 28. Roy's 'Boys doubled the -Recalls behind Ross Patterson who rolled a 282 single and 696 triple to helphis club to five points. The Boys now have 15 season points and are one point away from getting out of the league cellar.• . Estates Atoms began their WOAA regularschedule in Listowel Monday night • and • came • home with a 6 - 3 win over the Listowel Cyclones. Daryl Madge. had two assists, while single assists were credited to Todd Graham. Nick Trebisli,''John Thompson and Scott Stokes. Dennis Cockwell, . Tom' Newbigging and. Figure skaters complete school - The Goderich • Figure Skating Club announced the results of their fall school held iii Vanastra on October- 16 and 17 and the following skaters completed their tests. George Kerr passed his preliminary figures, Debbie Horton her pre dance, the'.. Canasta Tango, Darlene Moore .. her Junior Bronze Dance, the Ten Fox, Carol Dechert passed. the Willow Waltz, Karen . Ann Electrics open season with. shutout Graham Electric Novice opened the. season last Sunday in Vanastra with an 8 0 - win ;over Port Elgin "After• a scoreless first period,: the Electrics scored three times ' in the second period And five- in ivein the third. Dave Jewell led the attack with a hat -trick and an assist. David Telford had two goals and singles went to Steve Schutz, Kevin Talbot and Scott Garrow. Garrow picked up three assists as did Tod Gilchrist. Kevin Talbot and Todd Jeffrey 'had single assists. The defence •pairings of Schutz and- Jeffrey, Shawn i • Larder and Kelly Allin played a strong game. The whole team backs checked well and as a result .of their efforts allowed Port Elgin only one shot on net which Was a break -away that goaltender Jay Williamson stopped.
