The bowling alley is to be renovated and re -decorated and the same fee that is now being charged will be collected in connection with the game. Her untimely demise is ascribed to heart txouble. Miss Moore was acting .- as a' companion for Mrs..1. Hoggarth , She leaves -no near relations so far as can be ascertained, hut distant relatives in the Weat have been ne- tified. Miss Moore was about 35 years of age, and her death comes as .� a great shock to her many friends. HOOPER At the County Council u.i' c n,g in Goderich last week Reeve 13 W. F. Beavers secured for Mosier a special grant from the county of $11.,0155 4 $4. This will mean an. additional grant of $4421•94 from the -legislature. The special grant from the county was for the extra. cost of tie. 20 ft. pave- ment from the bridge to the south boundary of the town. Of the spec- ial County grant the town pays back to the county as a epeeicl li'ry 00 per cent of this amount, the other 40 per cent represents the grant from the legislature. The governments share of the previous County grant of $3,000 to Exeter was $12,S00. This means that the government grant for the pavement on Main St. south of the bridge amounts to $17,- 221.94. Reeve Beavers is to be con- gratulated on getting this special grant through the county council. CHOICE BABY BENE*'. The citizens of Exeter are to have the privilege of smacking their lips on some pretty fine beef steak as Mr. A. Paul, who recently bought out Mr. B. Makins, brought home from the Toronto fat stock show a number of particularly fine animals. Among them was the champion pure-bred Shorthorn steer under one year. This animal was the champion pure bred steer at Guelph and was reserve grand champion. It was grand chain - ion steer at the Toronto fall exliibi- ion. It Was bred and fed by Amos Bros., of Moffat, Ont. Mr. Paul is placing the animal on exhibition in his window and to purchasers of one dollar or over at the. store he is offer- ing 20 pounds of this steer to the one who guesses nearest to its dress weight; 10 ibs. to the second, and 5 C t p t bs. to the third. The second and third stories of 1 the building are being cleaned up and will be used for games of differ- ent kinds. The second storey com- prises three fair-sized rooms, two of which are being kept for reading rooms and small games and the largest room of the three for a gymnasium. Hicks of Cen- tralia, won second prize for three heifers under one year and fourth i pirze for three Angus steers, 1,000 pounds and under. Mr. A. E. Ether-' ington, of Usborne, won third prize i for a pure-bred steer, under one f'( year, with his Shorthorn baby beef.! Pearce, jail -breaker , from •Hensall, was arrested at Lon- don last Saturday afternoon, soon after he arrived in the city in an automobile. He was returned to i Hensall Monday morning, Constable 1 Whitesides going for him.. • On Friday, Pearce, who gave his address as 93 Fullerton street, Leon don, was in Hensall, where he die- posed of a few overcoats.
