Separate School teachers
attend development session
The 166 separate school
teachers in Huron and Perth
at their professional
develppment day Monday,
October 18 in Dublin were told
by Rev. Michael Prieur of St.
Peters Seminary, London,
that eleven years after the
end of the second Vatican
Council, we are experiencing
a need for "renewal of the
renewal. This is evident in
many areas of the church
today."
Father Prieur gave as
some examples of this fresh•
renewal being experienced
today, such as - the renewal of
the Ursuline Community this
past summer, And the
renewal of marriages
through marriage en-
counters, with the resulting
updating of their faith. -
He said, "What weneed
today i5' a deeper awareness'
of several basic aspects gf our
faith - a deeper awareness of
meaning of God in our life, of
what it means to be
-christian • today, i.e. what
makes a Christian
specifically christian and
what makes a, Catholic
specifically catholic"
Father • Prieru said ' that
three.: specifically catNholic
emphases are:_"First, a deep
belief in the incarnation of
Jesus and how this affects our
notion of the Church. Second,
an appreciation of how im-
portant sacraments are for r a
catholic. And, third, an ap-
preciation of how nedessary a
true understanding of.
authority is today in a world
which: tends to make chur.
cher, into debating clubs:" '

SUCCESSFUL
ARBORETUM
The Reforestation, Land
Use and Wildlife. Advisory
Board met in early October.
The. Board members were
pleased to hear . of the sue".1
cessful planting of an ar-
boretum at the Wallace
Township Public School. 35
varieties of trees were
planted by 3 students from
each class. All 400 students' in
the school helped to raise
money to cover the cost of the
,trees. , ,.
It was brought to the at-
tention .of the Board that due
to a shortage of suitable
Public Land,. the Bay Scouts
Trees.. for ...Canada tree
planting program will be
curtailed for 1977. This is .an
unfortunate development
which.. the Authority ' hopes
will be overcome in time for
the 1978 planting season.
The Board, after learning
that the fish pond at the Falls
Reserve C.A. is definitely
meeting food and habitat
requirements for the fish,
agreed to have the pond
restocked in the spring of
1977.
The Finance and Personnel
Committee, :the Secretary -
Treasurer and the Resources
Manager all attended a
hearing before the Taxation.
Reform Commission in
. Kitchener on October 1. They
presented a briefwhich was
critical of the short, 12 month,
time period which has been
allowed for local Uniput prior
to implementatidn of the.
proposed changes to the
Property Tax Laws. It argues
that the administrative
implications of the proposed
changes are far. reaching and
intricate and that, because of •
this, many months will be
required for public a and
private agenciesto evaluate'
the changes in light of their
long term costs and benefits.
The Resources Manager
Ian Deslauriers has been
carrying wit investigations
into the possibility of. having
the Maitland Conservation
Report revised.
