School News On Wednesday, October 13, the pupils from grade four to eight took part in a cross country competition at Point Farms Provincial Park, which is located north of. Goderich. The results' are as follows. Karen Jantzi, third in senior girls; Valerie -Lobb, fifth -in 'Intermediate girls; David Elliott, eighth in intermediate boys; and Don Littlechild, eighth in midget boys. - There were 30 Participants in each rade. Holmesville Public School standing was sixth in the competition. Monday, October 18, the. pupils had their photos taken by Adana School. Studios of Strathroy. Westbrook were •participating in a discussion on local municipal government with pupils of grade seven and eight. A. soccer tournament" will beheld on Tuesday afternoon, October 26 at 12:30 p.m. at - HuronCentennial School at , Brucefield. The pupils will play a series of games to declare an in- terschool winner. The rain date for this event is. October 28. Interested parents are. invited as spectators. Mrs. Daley, from near Killarney, Ireland, who is ` a dairy farmerette, is visiting with, the-Bettles, very much interested in our dairy farms, with Alvin to , take her - Tuesday to see several. Alvin. and Barb Betties.. and Mary Jean spent Sunday visiting in ••Kincardine. Mr. and Mrs. Betties had visitors from Detroit on the weekend. Mr. and Mrs, John Van Ninhuys have had a trip to Port Colborne to visit their son and a daughter. Sorry to report that Mrs: Ray Cox of the seventh is in Victoria Hospital, London. Miss Lily McArthur, Honorary President, gave special devotions with the scripture and meditations Former fire chief honored at dinner The Town of Goderich hosted a special social evening recently in the • Legion Hall . to honor former fire chief Ted Bisset and his wife. 'Mr. Bisset served as fire chief in Goderich from 1963 until'1976 He was presented with a watch, a mug and a 400 -day clock by the Town. The firemen showed their respect for their former chief by presenting Mr. and' Mrs. Bisset with rings -One for each-°' a, Other retiring firemen Gerry Denomy and Leroy Taylor werehonored, and each -received a watch and a mug, traditional retirement gifts for firemen. Attending the festivities. were Fire Chief Ralph Kingswell and the members of the Goderich Volunteer Fire Brigade; John Hoggarth Who served as fire chief in Goderich from 1953 until 1963; members of council; Jack Reise, Listowel; Ross Sparks, -Sarnia; Bruce Sowerby and •Harold Duckworth, 'Goderich; Dave -Carruthers, Wingham Fire -Chief and Co-ordinator for Mutual.
