Lack of communication
Sitiler unable to be at dinner
• Goderich Arena Roof
Celebrity .Dinner • organizers
said Monday that there •will
be a lineup change for the .big
November 26 bash.' •Com-
mittee spokesman Larry
Jeffery said Darryl Sittler
was unable to came, to the
dinner adding that the.
committee had a
replacernent • athlete 'but
couldn't reveal who the
person was.
Mr. Jeffery said that a lack
of communication was the
cau'seTor Sittter's inability to
come to,: thee• dinner adding
that ht -and •the committee
were very disappointed that
young hickey players in'
Goderich would have no
opportunity to meet the
Maple Leaf centre in person.
Mr. .Jeffery said Monday ,
the committee had failed' to
make final arrangements
with Sittler': agent. simply
because they assumed that a
previous tc•knowtedgment•
from Loaf general manager
Jim Gregory was sufficient.
He said he talked with
Gregory prior to the start of
the hockey season and the
general manager said he felt
there was a good possibility
Sittler could attend • Mr.
Jeffery said he thought that.
was an affirmation and Mr.
Gregory thought Jeffery
would be contacting Sittler's
agent.
A conversation this month
revealt'd that Gregory had no
control over his players'
activities and discussions
with Si•ttler's: agent'.revealed
that the hockey player's time
has all been booked and,':he
unable to come to the dinner.
• "N,Ve thought at first that' e
had him booked and he was.
doing it for. nothing,- said
Jeffer "When we fotaitd out •
what had happened we al-
f.ered to pay him to come but.
he still couldn't make it."
Mr. Jeffery did say he hada
replacement lined up for the .
dinner but said he wasn't
• going ' to make any an-
nOuttcements until he. was
absolutely 'sure .the person
could male it to the dinner..:
