few of the animals in existence anywhere and even fewer
in Canada. -
• Catahoula has only become a registered breed in the
last five years. Their family tree inc•liTdes kri Australian
dog and •a .North American. hound. They • were first
crossed' 'in 'Florida to, develop a dog to herd cattle and
hogs in the swampland:
•Dogs are divided into two basic types, `Headers', and
' 'Healers'. The Catahoula is a header, which means that
traditionally in attack they go for the head or throat: The
Catahoula also feature . webs between their toes which
makethem-strongswimmers and excellent water dogs..

asked on Thursday evening to.
deny an application by
Gravco Inc. to build a con-
venience store at the corner
of $ayfield Road and Bennett
Street. -
In their letter Harold and
Agnes Gauley noted, "We feel
that the area is well serviced
by Dobie's Groceries, Black's
Town complimented
Goderich Town Council was
complimented on Thursday
evening• by the Shoppers'
Square Association on the
"attractive appearance of
our parks this summers'.' ina

Council received Building
Inspector - • Roy
Breckenridge's report for the
month of September'.
During September a total df
12 permits were issued at a
value of $323,700 bringing the
value of permits so far this.
year • of $2,169:045. This iv.
dowz'x considerably from the
value to the end of September
last year which . stood at
$3,969,616.
Of those permits issued two
were commercial in nature
and valued at $259,500. Seven
were for minor residential.

they said.
In referring the matter to
the planning board, . Coun-
cillor Stan Profit noted that
he'd go along with the Gauley
suggestion "so long as We
could restrict the number of
barber shops in the.
municipality as well.'"
German Shepherd, the dogsmake excellent watch dogs,
can be trained to become top notch bird dogs and are
wonderful with children.
"There are very few Catahoulas in -Ontario, she ex-
plains. "There is perhaps only one registered male, and
only a handful of female animals."
So far, four of the Catahoula litter have found homes
and. eight more are looking for an address. If you're
