GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY, OCTOBER '21.,1976- .PAGE::
• Zehr's Food Markets ah -
flounced this week that they
are .very close to completing
their new 22,000 square foot
store in Goderich township
and are confident their
November 3 opening date will
be met. Carl Zinkan,
president of Zehr's said
- Wednesday morning that the
opening date will be kept,
adding that the construction,
firm building the/store has
not failed yet to meet a
deadline,
The president said that the
new store'. would_ offer
customers in ' the Goderich
areaa complete . line ; of
bakery products baked fresh
„daily in the store. He said ,the
in-store bakery was a recent
addition to the Zehr's chain
and that in the last four stores
.opened it bad been very
successful. •
Mr. Zinkan said that 'the
store's management • . per-
sonnel would be transferred
to Goderich from established
stores but added that about 50
employees were_ hired in town
to meet the store's full and
part time staff needs:
Mr. Zinkan said he did not
want to attempt to offer
Goderich food customers any
idealsbut--would rather let
thorn .come to the store and
decide for themselves if they
enjoyed shopping there. He•
said -the -firm had stressed
°establish'ing a warm - at-
mosphere to the store to try CO
prevent the sterile -type of
shopping some outlets have.
He pointed out that the
' success of the effort could
only be measured '`in the
acceptance of- the store by
Goderich area customers.

TheMinistry of Tran-

Goderich Airport Committee
that it was not necessary to
purchase a jet screen for; use
at theeast end of the runway
at Highway 21., ° •',
George Lloyd, ' regional
• superintendent of airways
with MOT, informed board
member Dick Wright that a
jet 'screen was unnecessary
since no .aircraft should be
using the runway extensions
for run -ups or extending their
take off runs andshould only
be used as an emergency
overshoot area on landing.
The '' committee in-
vestigated the 'possibility of
erecting a jet • screen
following an accident •on.
Highway ' 21 in ' which • a
motorist had his car -windows
shattered from the force of a
jet preparing for takeoff.
If a pilot uses the runway
extensions for run -ups or
extended take off distance
near the fence, the pilot would
'be responsible for any
damage providing the ex-
tensions have been properly
marked as• required by the
.MOT. "It is necessary to post
appropriate signs advising
pilots not to proceed beyond
certain points for run -ups and
take offs.
The runway 4,„extensions

- The committee also passed
a motion to recommend to
council to enter into an
agreement with Imperial Oil
subject to mutual agreement
of the installation of facilities
and proper insurance
coverage protecting the
municipality. The.
agreements are for equip-
ment loan from the company
and an aviation fueldealer
agreement with Esso.
The agreements are for the.
new installation of ,pumps to
broaden the service of fuel
dispensing. A dual line and
turbo pump have already
been installed. The- price. of
80:87 fuel has been hiked to 85
cents per galloon and jet fuel
