The Goderich Recreation
and Community Centre
Board decided at its last
meeting to take steps .to get ,
the Arena Building.. Fund
drive back in high. gear. The
fund is $30,000 away from the
-total. amount needed by- the
town to
,pay their portion oil
the. reconstruction of the
Galeria' .Memorial Arena.
The rec board reviewed the,
fund• raising activitiess that.
have been completed and
offered some suggestions on
future events that could be
sponsored to raise the
remaining money. The town's
share of the $286,000 project
was about $100,000 even and
about $70,000 of that has been
assured . through cash,.
donations and pledges. -
• Mary Donnelly ,asked what

the possibility was of asking
out-of-town •businesses for
donations. She cited Bell
Canada, Laidlaw Transport
and large brewery and
distillery companies 'as
potential out-of-town donors
to the arena:,She claimed the
firtxs had made donations • to
other condemned arenas and.
are also usually convincing
the. public the*they are strong,
supporters of either sports or
community projects.
"I'm sure they have a
concerning donations
eonce g tion a s
in situation'slike this. All we,
have to do is -write head office
and ask," she said."
Bob Allen pointed out to the
board that the success of the
fund raising to date has been
due to /he efforts .of the fund
raising " committee and
suggested• that the board
meet with them to make any
future plans. 1 -le said • that
Committee's chairman, Chris
Cavanaugh, should be asked
about any activities and
polled to see if some of the
things called for haven't
already been looked after.
"We don't want to push him'
and his committee over,"
warned Mr. Allen....
As well 'as out of town
companies the board wants to
makea' special' drive for
donations 'frdm , the
professional businesses: in
town. Doctors, lawyers and
accountants and other
specialists all classed as
professionals will be. asked
for donations to the fund in a
special drive handled by
other -professionals:. The
