"I can't put a value on this
place," he says lovingly.
Jack contemplated selling
the house recently for deeply
personal `reasons and the
decision brought on such a
furor from his children that
he had • no Choice but to
abandon his plans. He is glad.
he didn't sell and •points out

his children, and probably a

same -'as the. pale bought 17
years. ago.
The ,trend to. buying hon-`
dyman's specials: is en-
" couraging t Jack, who can
claim some expertise in "the
matter. He saysthat someone
who buys ak :' rundown or

contractors ,to repair it ' may.,
as well go .ant and `buy a new
one since the. costs will
probably be the same. He
-ksaysone has to have a clear
picture in his mind of What
the finished product will be
and then work patiently
towards .that goal or be
"ticked from the start". .
• "And youhave to ignore the
skeptics who claim that -the
house will never be worth
anything," he adds.
ON TOUR
Jack supports his theories
with proof . by givingin-
terested visitors tours of his
home. He shows off the up-
stairs and points to things
that have••beer done by one of
his children • that show a
history of the Grace family.
An example is his son's
'bedroom that has been
finished with old barn board. •
Jack points to a., combination
chest of drawers and shelf
that his son built into the wall ..
of his' room. Examining the'..
work "proudly ,he is quick, to • :
point out that his son did itall
himself.
"See what I mean?" he
says. "I'm not going to
change that."
