It was a long wait. In fact
bad'been seven years since
Goderich spawned a con-
tender in their own Indifstrial
Fastball tournament. And
now the waiting is over.
An. inspired French.
Cleaners 1)dll team -battled;
' came -from -behind and stared
down adversityon several„
occasions to delight a largely
partisan crow. by, edging
Dorchester 3 -2 and emerging
as.. B champions in the
Goderich Industrial Fastball'
Tournament:
French, who enjoyed
modest, success • in the
Goderich Industrial league
this season, edged Strathroy 3
- 2 in their first contest, and
then hammered Port Lam-
bton and McGee Pontiacs to
set'fhe stage for their thrilling
championship victory:
Dorchester• failed to
capitalize on several
Goderich errors in the early
• •• innings but scored the first
run of the .ball game" in the
fifth inning as Don Longfield.
doubled in :Hal Black- who
reached base on an error.
French replied with a.run,in
theirhalf of the fifth as Mark
Dauphin reached base on an
error scoringjim Martin who
led off the inning with a triple.
Dorchester ' scored the go-
ahead run in the sixth as Bob

For Goderich the first
game with, ' Strathroy was as

Gallow gave Goderich a first
inning lead with a two -run
homer, bringing. in Frank.
MacDonald' who had singled
Strathroy evened, the score in
the second inning, producing
two runs, on twosingles; a
double and an error.
French scored the only
other • run of the game in the
sixth as Martin.singled in
Frani: MacDonald ,.who
walked and advanced on
Gallow' 'single. Martin and
Gallow again combined for
four of French's five -hits and
were:. responsible for driving
in all three runs. MacDonald
added the other hit . and
scored two runs.

Gallow hit a,two run shot in
the first inning and Sutton
banged a three -run homer in
the top of the seventh. Klages
and MacDonald" scored three
;runs each while Sutton,
Martin and Gallow banged
out two hits each. Paul Kelly
had two hits for McGee and
Doug Spitzig chipped in with
a home run and scored two
runs.

play, Gallow •was flawless in

In their first game he hit a

and in tile 7-0 win over Port
Lambton his two home runs
accounted for five•runs. In the
8-4' win over. McGee's he hit a
two run homer and in the final.
