J am fairly new resident to Ontario, having come up from
The•Marititnes, but my luck has not been all that good since 1
got here, starting outwith, a traffic accident the second day
after my arrival. '
I think I'am.going to need the services of a lawyer but quite
frankly, just can't 'afford one: I have heard about your legal
aid program in•Ontarro but my question is, how long do I have •
to be a resident before 1 would be eligible to apply for, legal
•
aid? .
Any help. or advice that .IMPACT can 'offer.,, me will be
greatly appreciated. -
Sorry to hear that your luck has not been the' best, so far,.
however as far as your status to apply for legal assistance
here in"the Province•t"•#'.'Ontario is concerned, we arepleased`
to inform you that th>re is NOwaiting period inV•.olved as'
there is no residency requirement for' the. granting of a legal
aid certificate 'in' Ontario.
Even aperson, riot ordinarily,a resident in Ontario may, at
the discretion of the Provincial Director of the, Plan, be
'granted a certificate entitling him, (or her)' to free legal
services..
We strongly suggest,.however,• thatyouwaste no time in
applying as there is often quite a `1ia,ckiog • of cases to be
processed. .

am a 22 year old secretary and I'm very bitter at the
course of events that my life has taken on account of my boss.
I realise that' I acted very foolishly but I'm wondering what 1
can do to obtain some sort of compensation from bim .whichl
feel is 'due.
Here is what happened:
My boss sweet-talked me into having relations with him.
He is a married man, and like many executives confided his. •
problems ..in his. secretary. He.said. he : was unhappily
married, and he wanted lo marry me as .soon as he 'got a
divorce.
I guess this is about the oldest line there is but I fell for it.
After a while, he dropped me and made up with his wife. -.
I'm pretty, angry now and I want to. know what. I can do.
There is really nothing you can do. You could not sue for
breach of contract to marry. A arontractto marry is void at
law where it is errter,ed into with the knowledge that the other -
party is still. married.
• "There is•a criminal. offence -of seduction of a female ern-.
ployee_, but the offence only ariseswhere/the female is under
2I years of age, of previous chastecharacter, and where -the
male is "more to blame" for the seductionthan the female.

1 was involved. in •a car 'accident recently; having_ been hit -
from behind. My insurance anlitty wants to sue the other
driver and they tell me they have been "subrogated" to my
rights: against, him. 1 didn't have a clue as to what this all
' meant and 1 a3ked them to explain, but lin still not very
`clear -about it and so I wonder if•you'd be kind enough 10'
explain in detail just what' this "subrogation" bit means—
thank you. •
You have no cause for concern, your insurance company is
acting on your behalf in a quite proper•rnanrier, .because by
subrogation, your insurance "company simply hops into your
shoes, obtaining all your rights against the offending driver.
That is, you could sue the other driver but it is more,
common that.the insurance company will settle with you and:
theei go after theother guy or his insurance' company,h'sving
been subrogated to your rights. Thus, A acquires B's rights
against C by being subrogated. to lits rights. •
" Subrogation is 'a concept runtiing throughout the law of
contract. • •
