Cross Hospital, ' Mindemoya;
Manitoulin Island. He was 79.
Mr. Ainslie was a resident
• of Goderich .for over half a
century and was an active
..merchant on The Square for
60 years. ,
lie was born January 20,
1897, the son of the late James
and Margaret' . (Mathieson)
Ainslie, in . Elizabeth Bay,
Manitpulin island. I{&moved
to Goderich in 1913 and has
lived''here since then.
He went to work at the W.I.
Baker Meat .Market ' and
Nought the business just prior
to -World War ':Two,' .Ile
operated . the ,'Ainslie Meat
Market,,until his retirement.
-April 17, 1961, at .which time
hi-s sari took over.

• He was married on January,
1; 1919.to Ada Neomia'Shields
and, the couple lived in
Goderich. He is survived by
his wife; •two sons, Bryan of
Goderich• and Donald of
Toronto; . one sister, ,Mrs.
Fred (Marguerite) Stack of
Evansville, Manitoulin
island-; and seven grand-.
.children, fie was predeceased
by a son; John Matthew, and
a brother, Harold. Ainslie. of
Detroit.
He was a member: of Knox
Presbyterian Church since
1913 nd served on the church
building committee; was past
, chairman of the ch.ir'ch board
of managers and the .Knox-
Chu.rch.- Memorial Trust;
Fund.
As well as being active as a
merchant Mr. Ainslie was -a

traveller.but his favorite trips
were tohis birthplace: Every
Summer -for the past 15 years
,he and ht's brother yachted to
Manitoulin Island as a special
vacation.

early years he made special
efforts to cater to the rural
community in the area. He

continued through the 1.920's
and 30's_s dropping the service
at . the outset of the -Second'
World 'War when rationing
was introduced.
The average work day for
Mr. Ainslie began at five a.m.
With no electricity to run the
saws' that ,speed. up neat
cutting today; he -had to start
, work at that Untie to •ensure'
hisproducts were readyfor
sale. early that day: To seiye
rural customers, he worked
until. midnight :Saturday
nights. -to convenience farm
customers coming to . 'town

She is survived by one
