The Goderich point tete! was more than double that of any other team..,: Teams, at the meet included Teeswater with a_ 279 score;' Kincardine -at 268 and. Hanover with 22 •. points to Goderich's 574, Mount Forest did riot enter the event., A meet:held `August 127 -in Listowel saw•Goderich with a winning 3371/2 points to 301; for Kincardine, 279 for Elmira -and 2241/2 for Listowel. The KincardineGoderich meet held in Kincardine. Just as well .you had. better things to do and couldn't make it, 'cause it would havebeen wasted time and gasoline. Would I kid you, pals? The Goderich' United 'A'. team lost to Oakridge 'A', 5-3. We certainlystarted out with a fantastic bang.., `Big Harry- 0' snapped in the initial goal of the game ' within 30 .seconds of the first minute of -play! Itwas•a classic! So, I figured this was gonna be our game '(foolish dreamer!) and I even dared hope' Tor a • no -score orrakridge's part) After all; when United comes on strong in the first half, We're usually full of pep and pitter- patter; Unfortunately, 'it . was an • error .-in— judgement on my part .and steadily throughout the entire proceedings, Goderichlizzled .out and the .'pep" was replaced :by '•pooped'. and the 'patter' 'pittered' out!: It was useless. for. United to attempt anything because Oakridge anticipated -each ..and every move that. we made' even before. United was aware of'their own motion! •• • - Oakridge was competent Mind you, . but not as terrific and overpowering as— United can be and should have been. The game continued to its ultimate 'conclusion.... with much frustration, exasperation and.. perspiration! ! - (and that, was only the fans! I): So., people' -we blew it! Mind you, wedidn't give it away but we sho'nuff let it slip away!: United's got all the angles, all the savvy and all the talent to produce first-rate soccer. I don't want anyone (United above all)' . ., • to• misinterpret What I'm saying becatise I'rn_ a "dyed-in-the-wool .true-blue United fanatic all the way, but it puzzles • . me when they don't struggle to live up to their potential. They' owe 4t to the game of soccer, to the fansand above all, they . .owe it to themselves. They have so Much to give in. terms of :the. -sport and the entertainment it'produces; so why are they doggin'. it! ? They've- got the love and support of everyone connected with our club, so' it's not lack ofinterest in that area.
