Messrs. C. W. Kestle, Rufus and
Orby Kestle, motored to Brantford
and Burford for the week -end.

the funeral of the late Gus Cough-
lin, which was held at Mt. Carmel on
Monday.

Mr. Amos Doupe, of Kirkton, had
a pair of young horses; valued at
$400, struck by lightning during a
recent storm.
Mr. and Mrs. M. Eacrett spent
a couple of days visiting their
daughter, Mrs. W. Turnbull, on the
Thames Road.
Messrs. Skane and Bennett, of
Ridgetown, motored here and visited
with Rev. and Mrs. McAllister over
the week -end.
Rev. J. O. L. Spracklin, of Wind-
sor, will conduct anniversary ser-
vices in Main St. Methodist church
on November 14th. ,
A Durham County farmer closed a
deal by which he will receive $34;-
000 for his apple crop. His orchard
consists . of 100 acres.
Mrs. (Rev.) McAllister returned
home Saturday evening from Ottawa
where she visited her son, Mr. Fred
McAllister for two weeks.
Mrs. E. 3. Wright left on Wednes-
day for Winnipeg, where she will
reside in future. Mr. Harold Wright
left the same day for London.
Mrs. Wm. Montgomery and child,
of the West, who have been visiting
the former's father, Mr, Jas. Hand-
ford, is at present visiting with rela-
tives in Toronto.
Four provinces of Canada on Mon-
day voted to become bone-dry. They
are Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Saskat-
chewan and Alberta. The vote in On-
tario will come in the spring.
Mr. L. Hardy, was taken seriously
ill on Friday of last week, and is
confined to his bed. His daughter,
Mrs. Janes Wanless, of Duluth, ar-
rived in town on. Tuesday.
A meeting of the Exeter -Zurich
executive was held in town on Mon-
day evening. The boys will have
some nifty sweaters for the winter,
the colors being green and orange.
Mrs. T. 0. Southcott and Mrs. F.
M. Boyle, were elected delegates
from James Street Sunday School
to attend the Provincial Sunday
School convention to be held at St.
Catherines next week.
Miss C. Oakes, -at Chicago, has
been visiting her grandmother, Mrs.
T. Gregory, for several days. Miss
Oakes delighted the James St. con-
gregation on Sunday evening by
singing two solos.
Messr.s S. Fitton, W. Johns, Rd.
Wells and W. J. Beer left this week
for Hay swamp where they will
spend two weeks in hunting and
shooting. ' The men have a camp
at the bush and each fall several
days are spent in shooting.
Mr. and Mrs. D. C. McInnis re-
turned on Friday last after an ex-
tended trip through the western
provinces. Mr. McInnis reports that
the west has been enjoying the same
excellent weather that has been pre-
vailing in the east. Threshing is
nearly completed.
Mr. John McMahon is moving
from his farm on the 2nd concession
of Hay township, to Toronto, where
he will reside in future. Mr, Mc-
Mahon willhold an auction sale of
farm stock, implements and house-
hold effects on Wednedsay, Novem-
ber 3rd. See advt. on page 4.
Mr. Wm. Warren, Sr., of the 4th
concession of Usborne, who has been
seriously 111, is improving. Some
time ago Mr. Warren was thrown
from a sulky plow when the latter
struck a stone. A bolt pentrated his
leg between the knee and the ankle,
e was also injured internally and
s angered quite a lot.
