Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Acheson visit
ed their son Garvey, at St. Thomas,
over the week -end.
Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Knight and son,
oe Guelph, motored over and called
on friends on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. N. 0. McTaggart of
Toronto and two sons -spent the
week -end with Mrs. F, Downie.
Mr. E. Short and Mr. E. Knight
were in Goderich this week where
they were called to attend the jury.
Miss Verda Vale, of Exeter North,
had'the misfortune to slip and twist
her foot, breaking one of her ankle
bones.
Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Boyle, of Tor-
onto, and Mrs. W. S. Thomson, of
London, called on friends in town on
Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Perry Windsor and
child have returned to their home,
after visiting Mr. and Mrs. George
Windsor of town.
The Epworth League of James St.
Methodist church held a corn and
wener roast on the bank of the river
on Wednesday evening of Iast week.
Several car loads of young people
were present and a jolly evening
Was spent.
Ivan Smillie; of Toronto, who is a
guest of his aunt, Mrs. Murray, sang
a solo in the Presbyterian church
last Sunday morning. Mr. Smillie
possesses a rich soprano voice which
was much appreciated by his hearers.
Dr. Roy Farmer, a former resi-
dent of Exeter, was accidentally shot
last week when two bullets from a
revolver he was handling lodged in
the region of the heart. He is at pres-
ent in a critical condition in London
hospital.
The two Methodist churches in
town are planning to hold union
revival services in town for two
weeks in October. The services will
be conducted by the two pastors
assisted by Rev, H. B. Parnaby, of
Elimville and Rev. G. W. Rivers, of
Hensall.
Mr. A. T. Cooper, of Clinton, spoke
in Caven Presbyterian church on
Sabbath morning Iast and in the
evening, Dr. Strang, Supt. of Mis-
sions in Saskatchewan, delivered an
excellent address. Master Ivan Smil-
lie sang a very pleasing solo at the
morning service.
Reeve and Mrs. Beavers, with the
boys, attended the funerals of Marion
Beavers, also Mrs. Henry Switzer at
St. Mary's, last Thursday, the former
being a eisece and ,the latter an aunt
of 'tlr. .Beavers. Master Lloyd re-
turned with them, and s. ent the week
end at his home ,,.ere.
Among those from a distance who
attended the funeral of the late P.
McTaggart, on Tuesday, were Dr.
Albert McTaggart, or Toronto; Mr.
and Mrs. E. McTaggart, of Blyth;
Mr. Wills, Mrs. Wakeling and Mies
Wakeling, of London; Mr. Turnie, of
Clinton; Mr. and Mrs. McDonald and
Mr. Alfred McTaggart, of HensaIl,
Tenders were recently called for
the carrying of His Majesty's Mails
over Rural Routes No. one and
three, Exeter. We understand that
Mr. Thos. Laing, Carrier for route
No. 3, has been re-engaged fbr a
period of four years at a substant-
ial increase in salary. Mr. Parsons,
carrier. over Route No. 1, has accep-
ted a contract for two years, also
at a nice boost in salary.
The regular meeting of the W,C.T.U,
was held Monday in, the Library, when

nlaining the laws'relating to Temper-

Toronto, who recently returned af-
ter an extended visit in Great Brit-

Mrs. John Snell has rented her
house to Mr. Bray for the winter.
Mrs. Snell left on Monday for Wind-
sor to spend the winter with her
daughter, Mrs. C. H, Smith.
Mr. C. B. Snell is progressing
with the work of tearing down the
old blacksmith shop in Exeter North
formerly owned by Mr. D. Braun('
and which for many years has been
a lan.dniark.
The cement pavement an Welling-
ton street from Main Street to the
station was completed last week
and one block has been opened for
traffic. The street will be closed for
two weeks longer. •
