Art Club learns to trauslate feelings into colors and- form During three seminars held in May the 'members of the Gdderich ArtClub weretaken on an'exciting voyageinto the world of abstract and im- pressionistic art. The manat the helm,' Ron Walker., a resident of Huron County steered a course by way .of lectures, illustrations and work shops which turned the club's 'thiinking in new directions as well as shar- pening their awareness of what lies around them. • Mr. Walker who moved to this area recently is already becomingwell-known for his outstanding .talent as a teacher: and an artist. His power of communication creates a zest to adventure' 'beyond the exterior viewof• whatever is seen as, a com- position in front of a painter. The seminars which were held' • in the MacKay' Hall studio had an attendance each day of 18 or 19 members., including a few non-member area painters. Judging'by-the air of enthusiasm and the compositions produced, the Goderich Art Club will never be' 'quite •.the sarne. again. Horizons have been -widened and new Vistas opened. Mr. Walker emphasized in hi`s lectures that the inner reality of what People view is more important than its outer aspect. It is a pers•on's, response to and empathy with`" this reality that merges with their . own character and personality to create something original out of the scene around them. He re -iterates thatcopying nature to please the tourist trade is not art even if done skilfully: The more that is copied of what is seen, the .. less ofthemselves people put ' into creation. • . ' He ' suggested that people look •at things • from new; reen Thumbers plant flowers Early Saturday morning a brigade of young Green. Art doesn't have to be beautiful but it should be • an • expression and in: terpretation of the life around the artists. • Mr. Walker encouraged those would-be painters who must'•spend •a lot of time in the kitchen to paint the familiar things from- that area; however, not justthe way it looks but the way they feel about -it.
