shattered .on Saturday by the
barking and howling:ol'About
150 dogs of all sizes, shapes
-and breeds. • The canines
.'converged on the •Belgrave
Community Centre. . and
Arena forming the. corn;
coin;
petition for a sanction match
sponsored by the: Biuewater
Kennet Club
The match, •-a first . for
Huron „County and '• the
fledgling kennel club, is
identical to a dog show but is
open only to noVice dogs. and
.• -usually .'novice owners --and
handlers. The purpose of the
match is.to give the rookies a
.chance to gain valuable ring
experience and to accustom
the young dogs to the bustle
and coin motidn of a dog show.
Animals entered in a
regular show. can gain points
...towards their. championship.
rating if they.. are declaredo
winners. but -the winners in a
sanction matchare not given
- ppints, just ribbons': The
.matchis for dogs with five
. points or less ° towards' a
championship :.ensuring that
entrants all have an equal
. chanc'e of winning, assuming
they have an equal potential
for .becoming championship
or show rnaterial. _

are' confusing enough for
organizers without "the

Belgra've arena .early in the
morning setting up rings,
display. booths and hanging
decorations and border trim
against the hockey boards to
give,'the building a little at-
mosphere.
Set to start at 11 o'clock
sharp the animals and owners.
. began to' arrive• about an hour...

grooming and pruning of
coats. Entries we're recorded,
judges • called the dogs to the
ring and theshow was un-
derway.

leading from individual breed -

show. The dogs were divided
. .into six' classes, sporting
on ha.d. to watch where they'
walked by patrolling the area.

such an event. •
