Increases in the, Old Age
Security Pension, Guaran-
teed Income Supplement and
'Spouse's Allowance, effective
in April 1916, have been an-
nounced _ by. Health .and
Welfare Minister • Marc
Lalonde.
Increases in Old "Age
Security Pension • and
Guaranteed Income Sup-
plement payments represent
the, tenth quarterly escalation
based on the cost of living, as
provided for in the- Old Age
Security Act. ,
The new monthly total at
the Single . rate for persons
receiving both the,,basic Old
Age Security pension and
maximum Guaranteed
pension
Aptil.
Income' Supplement will be
$230.42.
For a -married couple who
are both pensioners, the
combination of the basic
pension and maximum
supplement wili provide a
payment of $439.56 for the
couple monthly,,.
The basic Old Age Security
pension will rise in April to
$.135.43 from the . present
$132,90. .-_-
• The maximum Guaranteed
Income Supplement for a -
single person, or a married
person whose spouse isnot a
pensioner andis not receiving
• a Spouse's Allowance, will go
up in April to $94.99 from its
current $93.22. The maximum
supplement for a married
couple; both pensioners; will-
increase to $84.35 each from
,$82.78.
Added tothe basic pension,
this will give each married
pensioner $219.78 monthly, or
a total of $439.56 for the
couple.
The maximum. Spouse's
Allowance will increase to
$2.19:78 from $215.68. The
maximum Spouse's
Allowance is made up of an
amount equivalent to the
basic Old . Age Security
pension and an amount.
