Council closes part of Mary, St.
Goderich town council gave
•final reading to a bylaw
calling for the closure of
Mary Street east of the ,east
limit of Maple Street: •
Council had- hoped to give
the third. and final reading at
its March 1 meeting. When an
obj.ection•was' raised by Dr
Melady of Huron Road,
Dr. Melady made a verbal
objection" to the closing of the
street and submitted some
rough notes that were to. be
forwarded to the Huron
County -Planningdepartment
for study. •
Roman • 'Dzus,. 'senior
planner,
planner, concluded that Dr.
Melady's'property would not
be adversely affected by the
closure of Mary Street. He
added that Dr. :Melady. isnot
• dependent on Mary Street for
direct access to his property
and therefore was not
deprived the means of ingress
and egress to his property.
Dr, Melady explained to
council. tIiat his original
objection ha'd been misun-
derstood and that he - was
objecting as a tax citizen and
was being denied use of a
town street. He said he used
the street to gain access to
Bennett Street and `would be
denied that'right.

Dr..Melady agreed with a
statement by Councillor Elsa,

was more of :it causing a
-nuisance rather than causing
hardship.'
