The Candy Stripers, volunteer girls who work at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital
assisting patients where possible, were honored Monday; night in an award night. Five of
thegirls received special recognition,or their hours donated to the°hospital. Here Mrs.
Kathleen Blacker gives Faye Sears, centre, and Audrey Vanden Heuvel award caps
signifying over 100 hours donated. Other girls to. receive the caps who were absent were
Judy Van Dongen, Robin Ormandy and Joan Coulter. Special bands were given to Judy,
• Faye, Robin and Joan for 150 hours donated and Robin and Joan received pins for over 200

caps, bands, and pins for the
hours they have volunteered
in caring for the sick and
helping the hospital staff..

spoke on • "The Reality of,
Change in the Nursing
Profession":
She • told the girls'.of' -her
desire' to become a nurse as a
young ,'child. She ac-
complished this but then went
on to other fields such as.
midwifery, treatment of
tropical diseases, teaching,
and is now in the ad-
ministration department%
She stated that although the
present conditions seem to
discourage entering, the
:nursing profession, there will
always be .a need for girls if
they specialize. If a girl is .
interested. 'in nursing, she

should pursue her goal but not
be. content to be just .a

purpose in "nursing.. is
