Five of thegirls received special recognition,or their hours donated to the°hospital. Here Mrs. Kathleen Blacker gives Faye Sears, centre, and Audrey Vanden Heuvel award caps signifying over 100 hours donated. Other girls to. receive the caps who were absent were Judy Van Dongen, Robin Ormandy and Joan Coulter. Many parents and • Auxiliary ni m.bet s attended and •were welcomed by 'the President,. Mrs. C.J Worselt. The Auxiliary sponsors the Candy .Stripers, buying their ' uniforms and awarding them caps, bands, and pins for the hours they have volunteered in caring for the sick and helping the hospital staff.. These are teen-age gids from GD::I and their: help is greatly appreciated by patients and staff. He wished them,much success in. the future., The .guest -speaker, 4VIrs. • Charity MacDonald, Director of Nursing of the hospital spoke on • "The Reality of, Change in the Nursing Profession": She • told the girls'.of' -her desire' to become a nurse as a young ,'child. She ac- complished this but then went on to other fields such as. midwifery, treatment of tropical diseases, teaching, and is now in the ad- ministration department% She stated that although the present conditions seem to discourage entering, the :nursing profession, there will always be .a need for girls if they specialize. If a girl is . interested. 'in nursing, she A trophy:; eE:r should pursue her goal but not be. content to be just .a .registered nOrse.
