Restraint wor
in tr
ung
YS
Restraint has hit Huronview this year, and,. thead-
ministrator there, Chester Archibald, _remarked to
,Huron County Council at 'its March session on Friday that
if . handled properly, ,it has a self -controlling influence
that some feel has been lacking in the past in many
places.
Mr. Archibald pointed jout that at Huronview; there's
very little way that beds can be put .Without sacrificing a
much needed service to the people of Huron County. At
anytime, tliere'is a long waiting list of. persons desiring
to Make their.home at Huronview. -
For this; reason, Mr. Archiliald has been cuttingback in
other ways -.dike making useof a provincial bulk pur-
chasing plan, not replacing employees who retire and -
the big one - not -bringing in replacements for -people who
are sick for one or two days at'a,time. .
This latter restraint has a "self -controlling influence",
according to:Mr. Archibald. When workers have tb cover
for a fellow employee. who Is off sick, there is ` con-
•siderable pressure on the employees•who are sick to get
,J,Ietter quick and stay that way. Whei3''the workload
:becomes heavier for the, ones left on the job, there i$ a
'tendency to hurry back that maybe lacking when a part-
time employee is brought in tb do the, work.
Andyou thought the restraints weren't working!
