Borth, of Mit- chell had his arni broken when. a Ford ear he ,was cranking back- fired. ackfired. A whiskey seizure from a Mon- treal steamer Samuel Marshall, more than 1000 oases of American and Canadian whiskey was made at Pres- cott. The vessel was en route from Montreal to Lake Ontario. The goods were valued at $40,000 and is the largest seizure of its kind in Ontario Miss Rose Wolfe of Dublin, daugh- ter of '_lir. and Mrs. Louis Wolfe, of that village, took the highest ,marks in Canada of those writing at the Toronto Conservatory of lilusic, win- ning thereby the conservatory's sil- ver medal, with a letter of recom- mendation from Dr. Vogt. A pretty church wedding took place at Mitchell on August 11th, when Gwendoline Kate, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Daniels, of Mitchell, was united in marriage to Mr. Charles A. Colgn- houn, of Walkerville. son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Colquhoun; of Mitchell. The bride and groom left for a short honeymoon to St. Thomas and Wind- sor before going to Walkerville to reside. On Saturday last, Robbie, the 13 - year -old son of Mr. Janes McGreg- or, near Kippen, met with a painful accident. The young lad was in an appel tree when he fell out, and in falling to the ground, a distance of thriteen feet, striking his elbow and knocking the arni out of place at the shoulder. The young lad was taken to Dr. Moir's office, Hensall, and the shoulder hones set, but they would not remain in place. He was afterwards removed to the hospital in London where it was found nec- essary to perform an operation on the shoulder, the bone being partly turned around. John Bradley, of Mitchell, 45 years' of age, playing in a football game between the Mitchell and the Seaforth teams on the recreation grounds at Seaforth, last Week be- came exhausted and was taken to Dr. Ross' office where he died about five minutes afterwards. The . de- ceased had been foreman in the Mit- chell Woollen Mills for about a year. Heart failure was the cause of death, He leaves a widow and daughter. Mrs, Demuth and son Albert and Mrs. F. Young and little son,Harry, who have been visiting relatives and friends here the past month, re- turned to their homes at Port Ar- thur last Thursday, Rumors of a "stew disease" are floating about the town, and, wheth- er this is the herald of a new. epi -1 deiuio or simply a new variety summer grippe remains to be decid- ed. The symptoms seem to he pains in 'the back, shoulders. or neck fre- quently accompanied by a high fe- ver. Both pains and ftiver seem to be recurrent, Many citizens appear 1. to have been visited by this malady, whatever it is. It is hoped, however, that a, change in weather may force { ft to evacuate. A BY-LAW to provide for borrow- ing the, sum of 1j8000 ,to pay for the Construction of a concrete pavement on Wellington Street, .un The Village of Exeter, and to authorize the issue, of debentures therefor: WHEREAS, the Municipal Council of the Corporation of Exeter and pur- suant to a ,request of the ratepayers: that it is desirable and in the interest of the Corporation of the Village of Exeter to construct a concrete pave- inent Ode Wellington Street, beginning at Main Street and ,extending as far as the Grand Trunk Railway property lvith. n .the itlla e sof Exeter. NOTICE The above is a true copy of the proposed by-law which has been taken into consideration and which will be finally passed by the Council of the Corporation of the Village of Exeter, in the event of the assent of the electors being obtained thereto after one month from the first pub- lications in the Exeter Times and the Exeter Advocate newspapers, which first publication was on the 29th day of July, 1920, and at the hour, day and places therin fixed for taking the votes of the Electors a poll will be held. Every lease holder entitled by law to vote on the proposed by-law shall at least ten days next proceed- ing the day of polling file in the office of the Clerk of the Municipal- ity a statutory declaration stating that his lease meets the requirements by law entitling to vote on such a by-law. And the names of lease hol- ders neglecting to file such a declar- ation shall not be placed on the 'voters list for such voting. Corporations entitled to appoint a nominee to vote on its behalf shall not later than the tenth day before the day appointed for taking the vote, file with the Clerk of`the Muni- cipality the name in writing of ` a person to vote as its nominee and on its behalf. And for the issue and sale of fur- ther debentures in the amount of $20,000:00 to cover said cost. WHEREAS the sum of Twenty Thousand Dollars is deemed neces- sary by the Council to complete the payment due for the construction of the Main Street pavement. .AND WHEREAS the amount here- tofore borrowed and outstanding for the purpose aforesaid and the a-' mount hereby authorized to be bor- rowed do not exceed the afnount of the said concrete pavement construc- tion. AND WHEREAS the amount of the whole rateable property of the said Village of Exeter according to the last .revised Assessment Itoll is the sum of $775,275.00 AND .WHEREAS, the existitig de- benture debt of the said Village of Exeter, exclusive of local improve- ment debenture debt secured by spec- ial assessment therefor, amounts to the sum of $59,18441 and nopart of the principal .or interest thereof is in arrears. Be it enacted by the Municipal Council of the Corporation of the Village of Exeter as follows: 1. That the Reeve with the Treas- urer of 'the said Corporation be, and. they are hereby authorized in the manner and subject to the conditions herein mentioned to borrow upon the credit of the said Municipality the sum of Twenty Thousand Dollars ($20,000.00) for the purposes herein before set forth and for that purpose to issue debentures of the said Mun- icipality to the amount of $00,000.- 00 20,000:00 insums of not less,than $100.00 each and such debentures shall be signed by the Reeve of the said Cor- poration and countersigned by the Treasurer of the Corporation and duly sealed with the corporation seal which 'seal the Clerk is hereby au- thorized and directed to attach to ,each of the said debentures.
