dist church have decided on gowns

Mrs. Powell leaves to -day Thurs-
day for Toronto to visit her sister,

Miss Elva Harvey visited her sis-
ter, Mrs. L. Greive in Loudon for a
couple of days last week.
Mrs. T. E. Handford and daughter
Miss LaBelle, motored up from Inger-
soll and visited in town and at Grand
Bend.
Rev. Dr. Medd was in Seaforth
Sunday evening conducting services
in the Methodist church in the inter-
ests of Social Service and Evangelism
An embargo has again been placed
upon the import of cattle, sheep and
swine into Canada from the United
Kingdom, except Scotland, because
of fresh outbreaks of foot and mouth
disease in England. '
Mr. D. Richard has moved into the
house on Main street recently vacated
by Mr. B. M. Francis. Mr. Waal
recently purcchased the house vacat-
ed by Mr. Richards on Huron street
and will move in.
Mr. W. G. Medd and son Bruce re-
turned Saturday evening after at-
tending the convention of the Ontario
Sunday School Association in Toronto
Mr. Medd was honored with the posi-
tion of Vice President of the Assoc-
iation.
The Victory Loan campaign open-
ed on bionday. The future of Canada
rests upon the success of the loan.
Owing to the importance of the
campaign The Times deviate's from
usual custom and devotes the front
page for promoting the loan.
Mr. -Eli Snell left last week for
Detroit where he is receiving treat-
ment for a growth behind the ear.
Mr. John Norry accompanied him
but has since returned. Mr. and
Mrs. C. B. Snell left ibis week for
Detroit, Mr. Snell to attend his bro-
ther while Mrs. Snell will visit in
Flint, Mich.
The condition of Mr. Charles Per-
kins remains about the same. Mr.
Perkins in in a very serious con-
dition and it was thought at one
time last week that the end was
very near. He has rallied several
times during the week and recognized
the few friends who are permitted
to attend his bedside.

who in an able manner, expressed our
gratitude for the splendid victory we
have had over our greatest enemy,
King Alcohol. The delegates appoint-
ed for Frau. Convention at Guelph
Nov. 17th to 21st, were Mrs. George
Manson, Mrs. (Rev.) Kestle.
T.hc Loyal Temperance Legion held
their meeting in James Street School
room on Friday afternoon when Rev.
Wilson gave the children a very in,-
atructire address. Those meetings
are to be held regularly during the
coming winter end plans are being
made to make them, interesting and
profitable for the boys and girls.
Sergt. Will Birney returned home
on Wednesday of last wek from
overseas and his many friends were
glad to welcome him back. Sergt.
Birney enlisted with the 161 Huron
Batt. Prior to his enlistment he
had an excellent position in Winni-
peg which he resigned to come east
and join his home batt. He was
attached to the pay office in London
Eng.
Mr. R. B. Quance delivered a hog
on Tuesday to Mr. -Thos. Johns that
showed a growth that will be hard to
beat. Five weeks ago Mr. Quarles
purchased the hog and it then weigh-
ed 147 pounds. When it was taken
to the station for shipment it attract-
ed
ttracted the attention of several who were
there at the time and several guesses
were made as to its weight. The
surprise carne when the scales reg-
istered 240 pounds. This is a gain
of 93 pounds in five weeks, or 18
3-5 lbs. a week which is considered
hard to beat.
