C hristmas, a celebration with Jesus
By Pastor Bruce Tombs
Victoria Street United Church
Tomorrow is my birthday. „
Now, when most people discover that,
their reaction is; "Oh it must be rough
having your birthday on Christmas Eve.
After all, you wouldn't get hardly any ex-
tra presents." And on and on they go about
what I miss out on,
Actually, I always felt pretty lucky; I
never really felt that I missed out on any
presents; I always got something on my
birthday and I knew that there were a lot
more presents to come tomorrow.
MINISTER'S STUDY
What made my birthday so special each
year, was how the whole family could
always be there for me. Most people have
the holiday season off work, that meant
most of my relatives from as far away as
Toronto, (I lived in Montreal) as well as
those close by, would be there to join in the
celebration.
I never thought of it in the sense of com-
munion, back then, but what I looked for-
ward to most, was the way we always went
to a restaurant, of my choice, together for
supper.,
Today, I think of how many families will
be gathered around the Christmas table to
celebrate Christ's birthday, and I wonder
how many will have thought to remember
to set a place for the guest of honour.
Happy birthday Jesus, see you at six for
supper.
