Corriveau said a meeting to discuss the matter has been arranged for Jan.6., 7:30 p.m., at the Town Hall. "All Goderich service clubs have been extended an invitation to attend this meeting," Corriveau said. 'TheGoderich Tourism Committee, which has been studying the proposal, will present a brief on the matter. Corriveau said that Tourism Promoter Robin Stuart has been looking into the matter of the cost of such'a proposal. "We want all the service groups to see what exactly is being proposed, and see if they can support the idea," Corriveau said, " I've had indications from some of the groups, already, that they like the idea." Corriveau said the wall -statue might consist of statues of local and regional historical personages: Tiger Dunlop and John Galt, as well as a wall of plaques denoting places of interest and commerce in Goderich. "The wall- statue would be located on land along Highway 21 South," Corriveau said, "Some people have expressed a will- ingness to donate land for the project, but there would have to be some firm commit- ment from the community before we could go ahead with the project." Donations for Christmas Bureau welcomed year round by FCS - Christmas decorations are in the stores ' and it is time to be thinking about your dona- tion to the 1987 Christmas Bureau. The goal of the Christmas 13ureau, spon- sored by Family and Children's Services of Huron County, is to provide one new toy and one new item of clothing for each child under 16 years whose family is in need of financial assistance. Families are also of- fered canned goods and staples along with financial help for Christmas dinner. Throughout the year, Family and Children's Services provides wool to volunteers who knit hundreds of mitts for children at Christmas. This year, Christmas Bureaux are located in five towns: Clinton, Exeter, Goderich, Seaforth and Wingham. New toys, new clothing, hand-knit mitts and canned goods are collected, sorted and arranged by volunteers from the local groups managing the Bureaux. Families are given appoint- ments to select their gifts from the Bureau. Volunteers understand that Christmas can be a difficult time for families experiencing problems and special care is taken to offer a sensitive and confidential service. The Christmas Bureau of 1987 is co- ordinated by Mrs. Pauline Lingard of Grand Bend, who oversees the program and con- sults with local groups. Mrs. Penny Hart of Clinton provides volunteer secretarial skills. The following groups are managing the 1987 Huron County Christmas Bureau on behalf of Family and Children's Services: Clinton – Clinton Christian Reformed Church; Exeter Exeter Pentecostal Church; Goderich – Salvation Army; Seaforth -- Seaforth Opti -Mrs.; and, Wingham – Salvation Army. The volunteers working at these Bureaux donate many hours at a time when they are very busy with their own families. But, they repeatedly tell us they find it very rewar- ding to know they have helped bring joy to another family's Christmas celebration. The Bureau accepted donated goods in early December. Cheques and cash dona- tions can still be directed to Family and Children's Services. Receipts will be issued for income tax purposes. Donations are ap- preciated throughout the year to assist in special programs for children and families. Family and Children's Services of Huron r County has been sponsoring the Christmas Bureau for more than 25 years. towards the development of amateur sport in the community. Selection criteria for the Celebration 88 Certificates involves considering in- dividuals who deserve recognition for their unselfish contribution to the community. This contribution should be of "inspira- tional" nature with recipients being recognized for demonstrating culture or community service. A deceased citizen can also be nominated for either a medal, or a cer- tificate in the categories indicated.
