(contributed photo) Sturgeon named wildlife officer of year In a special ceremony at Queen's Park on Dec. 14, Wingham Conservation Officer Glen Sturgeon was named "Wildlife Of- ficer of the Year" for Ontario by Shikar- Safari Club International. The club is a world wide organization of sportsmen, dedicated and committed to the conserva- tion of wildlife, the preservation of hunting and the protection of hunters' rights. The annual award acknowledges the fine work of those ministry of natural resources' staff who give of themselves above and beyond their job requirements. Conservation Officer Sturgeon was recognized not only for his outstanding ef- for'tin wildlife management but also for his role as a keen and sincere proponent of conservation and wildlife education. He is actively 'involved in speaking to school children and organizing Project Wild for area elementary school teachers. The awards of a plate and certificate of recognition were presented to Officer Sturgeon by the Hon. Vincent G. Kerrio, Ontario's minister of natural resources and Bill Falls, chairman of the Wildlife Of- ficer of the Year Program based out of Webb, Mississippi. Co-owner of the 1987 award was Henry Kujala, a wildlife management officer from Parry Sound District. Mr. Kujala died in a helicopter crash on Oct. 5 while photographing fish spawning beds. His award, accepted by his wife, was presented postumously. Weekend farm couples seminars Calling all farm couples. Partners In Suc- cess - weekend seminars for farm couples are again being sponsored by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Four seminars (three English and one French) will be held during February at various locations across Ontario. Aside from the op- portunity to get away from work and family responsibilities for a mini -vacation, this weerkend program offers a couple the oppor- tunity to gain new perspectives into their own personal situations. Workshops will be offered in communica- tions, goal setting, confidence building and dealing with change. The entire weekend package, including meals and two nights' accommodation, is yours for only $175 per couple.
