Mrs. Capt. Vivian Clarke, of the Salvation Army, shows some of the
toys and mittens collected for the Goderich Christmas Bureau.
This year, the Salvation Army managed the Goderich bureau with
Mrs. Clarke is charge. A large selection of toys, mittens, canned
food and clothing items were collected between Dec. 7 and 14.
These items will help needy families in the area have a merry

Two Victoria UCW groups share meeting
The UCW of Victoria Street Church held
their Christmas meeting on Nov. 30 com-
mencing with a pot luck supper. President
Verna Robertson opened the meeting with
prayer and a welcome to members and
visitors.
The meeting was shared by the two units,
Harmony Circle with leader Pearl Fowler
and Friendly Helpers with leader Leona
McBride.
Hymns were sung and the scripture lesson
was taken from St. Luke 2: 1-14. Leona
McBride presented her devotions with
Beulah Good and Margaret Armstrong giv-
ing readings on "What Christmas means to
you" followed by a prayer by Beulah. A
memorial service was conducted by Anne
Smith with a candle lighting service for the
departed. Tinian of the church.
Pearl fowler read "A real`t~hris'tarv"
Harmony Circle's guest was Mr. Ralph
Smith who entertained with a video on
stewardship. A play called "Giving and
wanting — what's your treasure" was put on
with performances by Verna Robertson,
Margaret Boa and Joy Smith with narrator
Irene Freeman.
The Friendly Helpers put on a skit entitled
"Christmas Eve" with Dove Horton, Joyce
Goddard, Fern Moore and Eva Horton ac-
ting and ending with a solo by Joy Harrison.
Reports were read and UCW calenders to
be presented to the sick and shut ins were
distributed. Mary Currell reported on the
nominating committee for officers for the
coming year. They are: Verna Robertson
(president), .Irene Freeman (assistant

their support throughout the year.
Pearl Fowler announced we had a sur-
prise visitor — Leona McBride dressed as
Minnie Pearl, entertained us with jokes and
carols played on her mouth -organ.
Verna Robertson thanked all who par-
ticipated and closed the meeting with
prayer and a Christmas wish.
Knox WMS elects officers
A Christmas luncheon meeting of the
afternoon auxiliary of the Knox .WMS took
place Dec. 8 at Knox Presbyterian Church.
The tables were attractively set in seasonal
trim. A luxurious repast was enjoyed.

the lunch. Rev. A. Young brought greetings
from the session. Mrs. Ethel McAllister
presented the nomination report with the
new slate of officers. Mr. Young addressed
the outgoing and incoming executive. The
dedication of the members of the new ex-
ecutive was carried out. '
The new slate of officers is: Mrs. R.
Bissett (Hon. Pres.), Mrs. R. McAllister
(past pres.), Mrs. D. Murchison (pres.),
Mrs. J. Lindsay (1st vice), Miss J. Scott
(recording sec.), Mrs. J. Horton (assis.
sec.), Mrs. G. White (treasurer), Mrs. A.
Young (corresp. sec.), Mrs. D. Reed (glad
tidings), Mrs. G. MacEwan (supply), Mrs.
G. Adams, Miss M. Scott, Mrs. D. Reed,
Mrs. S. Blake (friendship and service), Mrs.
I. Carruthers (pianist), Mrs. G. Edwards
(assist. pianist), Mrs. E. Bogie (least coin),
Miss M. Scott and Mrs. C. Wilson (social
com.), Mrs. R. McAllister, Mrs. C. Ed-
wards, and Mrs. J. Lindsay (group leaders).
The meeting continued with the reports
from the various committees. The objec-
tiiiekfor 1987 were -met. Appreciation was
eif'p' ressed to' all members for their contribu-
tions. 1987 was a year of spiritual growth,
new friendships, effectual leadership. All
were saddened by the deaths of five
members during the year: Mrs. Mary
Henderson, Mrs. Irene Oke, Mrs. Dorothy
McConnell, Mrs. Edna Pollock and Mrs.
Irene Young.
There is a new year ahead with new begin-
nings. Mrs. W. Bell gave an interesting ac-
count of her recent journey to the Orient.
She shared her impressions of the cultural
differences in the countries she visited.
Devotions were led by Mrs. McAllister
and Mrs. Edward. Christmas hymns and
the litany from the Glad Tidings were
followed by prayers and benediction. The
meeting closed with seasonal greetings to
one and all.
