HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Goderich Signal-Star, 1987-12-09, Page 14RANDALL AMOS MARRIOTT Mr. Randall Amos Marriott, of Saltford, died at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Monday, November 30 at the age of 8l. Born in Hamiota, Alberta on February 9, 1906, he was the son of the late John Marriott and the former Narncy Ann Stewart. Mr. Marriott was a truck driver until his retirement. He was also a member of Knox Presbyterian Church. Mr. Marriott also undertook the role of Santa Claus in Goderich for a number of years as well as participating in other parades as a clown. In an interview prior to his death, Mr. Marriott said a large part of the enjoyment in his life was making people laugh, and seeing people smile and enjoying themselves. Surviving are his wife, the former Clete Marjorie McCreath; one daughter Marjorie and her husband Jack Pentland of RR 6 Goderich; and four grandchildren Randy, Sandra, Robert and Jeffrey Pentland. Funeral and commital services were held at the McCallum and Palla Funeral Home Thursday, Dec. 3 with Rev. A.C. Young of Knox Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment Maitland Cemetery. GLENN EMMANUEL PRICE Mr. Glenn Emmanuel Price, of Goderich and formerly of Goderich Township, died Monday, November 30 at the age of 62. Born in Hay Township, November 1, 1925, helves the soh of the late Andrew Price and the former Elizabeth Reichert. Glenn owned and operated the Clere Vu Gas Station and Auto Wreckers before retir- ing earlier this year. He was a member of Wesley -Willis United Church, Clinton. Glenn was a long standing, board member of Wesley -Willis United Church, serving as Chairman of the Proper- ty and Finance Committee for many years, prior to moving to Goderich this past spring. Glenn was also an active member of the Clinton Lions Club and also a member of the Bayfield Anglers Club. He also sponsored many athletic groups in Goderich Townsip over the years and was the continuous sponsor of the Clinton Clere- Vu Rockets. Glenn was also known to many as a very avid hunter and fisherman. Glenn had enjoyed a very good relation- ship with the local detachment of the OPP and had just been recently honored by the force with a citation for over 30 years of ser- vice to the detachment. Their respect for Glenn was very evident at his funeral ser- vice with both past and present members of the force attending the funeral as well as two officers and friends who were among the pallbearers. He married his wife, the former Mable Bloomfield, Dec. 4, 1948 at Victoria Street United Church Manse, Goderich. Surviving besides his wife are one daughter Heather Price of London and one son William Hoggarth and his wife Lia of RR 2 Clinton. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Christopher, Derek and Michelle Hoggarth. The funeral service was held at the Wesley -Willis United Church, Clinton on Friday, Dec. 4 with Rev. James Bechtel officiating. Pallbearers were Philip Gingerich, Robert Irwin, Gordon Lobb, Eugene McAdam, Jack Straughan and Lloyd Weber. Interment Maitland Cemetery. EDNA MAY MOORE Mrs. Edna May Moore, of Benmiller, died Nov. 30 at St. Joseph's Hospital in London. She was 83. Born in Lynedock, Ontario, September 25, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Arthur ewelyn Wisson and the former Barbara outts. 2' She was a member of Benmiller United Church. Surviving are one son, Walter and his wife Lorraine of Straffordville, and one daughter Dorothy and her husband Kenneth Fisher of Goderich. Also surviving are one sister Mrs. Olive Million of St. Thomas and grand- children Linda and Shelley Moore. She was predeceased by her husband Ray- mond Jesse Moore and grandson Brian Moore. The funeral service was held at the Mc- Callum and Palla Funeral Home Wednes- day, Dec. 2 with Rev. Bruce Tombs of Ben - miller United Church. Pallbearers were Jerry Taylor, Jack Tribe, Don Million, Joel Taylor, Harvey Tribe and Dennis Wilson. Interment Colborne Cemetery. MISS MARY BEATRICE HOWELL Miss Mary Beatrice Howell, of Huronview Home for the Aged in Clinton, died Satur- day, Dec. 5 at the age of 84. She was a member of North Street United Church. Surviving are son Ted Howell and his wife Teresa of West Hill; grandsons Tom and Mike, and sister Mrs. Alma Pick of Kincardine. A memorial service will be ,held at North Street United Church on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. MR. LEONARD HICKS Mr. Leonard Hicks, of Goderich, died Saturday, Dec. 5 at the age of 50. Born in Goderich on July 24, 1937, he was the son of the late Maurice Hicks and the former Marjory Burke. Mr. Hicks was a construction worker. Surviving are son Leonard and wife Bren- da of British Columbia; grandchildren Tara and Sonny of British Columbia; and sister Hilda (Mrs. Fraser Prince) of Guelph. He was predeceased by his brother Wilfred. The funeral service was held at the Mc- Callum and Palla Funeral Horne on Mon- day, Dec. 7 with Rev. Robert 0. Ball of North Street United Church officiating. Pallbearers were Wayne Prince, Robert Prince, Mark Pate, Joe Durnin, Bob Prouse and Cecil Pollock. Interment Maitland Cemetery. ROBERT ADAM H NDERSON Robert Adam Henderson, of Goderich, died at Victoria Hospital in London on Satur- day, Nov. 28 at the age of 33. Born in London on April 12, 1954, he was the son of the late John Robert Henderson (1983) and the former Ruth Watson. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church and a laborer. Surviving are his mother, Ruth Watson Henderson; sister Margaret and her hus- band Ken Young of Goderich; sister Joyce and her husband Rick Kingsley of Goderich; nieces Nicole and Veronica Kingsley and John and Ron Young. He was predeceased by his father John Robert Henderson in 1983. The funeral service was held at the Mc- Callum and Palla Funeral Home on Wednes- day, Dec. 2 with Rev. Robert Johnson of Knox Presbyterian Church officiating. Pallbearers were Stan Profit, Terry McGuire, Don Tipert, Glenn Green, Eric Gosse and Tim O'Brien. Honorary pallbearers were Ken Young and Rick Kingsley. Interment Colborne Cemetery. MRS. ELEANOR (NELL) BRADFORD Mrs. Eleanor (Nell) Bradford, of Goderich, died in. London Monday, November 30 at the age of 84. Born in Auburn October 3, 1903, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Shields and the former Annie Dobie. Mrs. Bradford was a member of North Street United Church. Surviving are one daughter Bette (Mrs. Wm. Crawford) of Kincardine and one son Norris of Toronto. Also surviving are sister Mrs. Ada Ainslie of Goderich and Mrs. Marie Spenser of Detroit, Michigan. Nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive. She was predeceased by her husband, Bert Benson Bradford in March 1987 and one brother Frank Shields. Funeral and committal services were held at the McCallum and Palla Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 4 with Rev. Robert 0. Ball of North Street United Church officiating. Interment Maitland Cemetery. Canadian Foresters donated $13,619 to various charities During the 28th Annual Western Ontario Assembly of Canadian Foresters at Oaks Inn, Wallaceburg, $13,619 was donated to charity. Of this money, $6,150 was given to the CF Cancer Research Fund; $3,605 to the CF Games for the Disabled; and, $3,864 ,to the WOPA Project. Recipients < of the Project donations wre the Parkinson Group of Chatham abd the Windsor Diabetes Foundation. Bro. Hudson Milburn, past president of the WOPA, was project chairman. Winner of the project draw was Huron District Council. Bro. Jim Thompson of Seaforth was elected President of the 1988 WOPA and Sis. Sheila Thompson, secretary. Bro. John Conley of Court Woodbine, Cranbrook, was named Forester of the Year. The Activity Award went to Court Constance, Kinburn.
