The Goderich Sailors modest undefeated streak came to an end at two games as the result of a 6-2 loss in OHA Junior 'C' hockey action Friday in Hanover. The Sailors had broken their season -long winless streak with a win and a tie last weekend but theycould not stop the high- flying Barons who are still undefeated in league play. The teams were tied at 1-1 after one period, but the Barons outscored the Sailors 3-1 in the second period and 2-0 in the third. Dan Shaw led the Barons with two goals. Steve MacMillan, Barry Riff, Dave Hopkins and Scott Millman scored the other Hanover goals. Centre Mark Cauchi, who has played some excellent hockey for the Sailors so far this season, scored both Goderich goals. Sailors goaltender Jeff Roy, playing in his first game of the season, had a rough baptism of fire, facing 55 shots. The out- gunned Sailors managed 28 shots on Rob Kraal in the Hanover net. The Barons also out -hit the Sailors, but paid the price with 24 minutes in penalties compared to the Sailors' 12 minutes. Sailor defenceman Matt Wilkinson made up for some of the lack of rutting by his teammages by laying the heaviest body check of the game on a Baron for- ward late in the third period. Another bright spot in the Sailor's game was the play of forward Todd Graham, making his first start of the campaign. His heads -up play helped the offence considerably. Graham should be in the line-up again this weekend when the Sailors play, two home games. Friday at 8:30 p.m., the Sailors will entertain the second -place Wingham Ironmert. There is no love lost between these two teams, and the action is always hot and heavy when P they meet. Sunday at 3 p.m., The Sailors play here against the Port Elgin Bears. These two teams battled to a 7-7 draw here in their last meeting, and the Sailor's hard work- ing manager, Don Larder, guarantees that this game will be another good one. good one. Plans have been finalized for the league's first annual all-star game to be played January 2 between the league all- stars and the Junior `B' Stratford Cullitons, in Hanover. Peewee Lions win consolation The Goderich Lions Peewees beat Keswick 5-3 to win the consolation cham- pionsip at the Keswick Tournament Nov. 22. ` The Peewees won their second game of the tourney 6-3 over Nobleton following a 9-0 loss to Thornhill in the opening round. Frightening Foresters win to remain undefeated ON THE ROCKS Fame is such a fleeting thing, and winn- ing streaks often don't last long! This was the reality of competitive curling discovered by last week's big winners, the Victoria and Grey Grippers. They dropped back into the loser's circle with a 13-4 loss to the G.D.C.I. 9 to 3'ers, skipped by Chris Connor. Not even a raise double take-out per- formed by vice -skip Emily Crew could save them, as the Teachers scored a five - ender on the next end and went on to win. In other games last Thursday night, the Sheppardton Shufflers scuppered Her- man's Hurlers by a huge 18-3 score, The Ruthless Rookies defeated the Port Albert Ice Cubes 8-5, and the Hosers showered Dixies Flowers with a 9-5 wipe-out. The only undefeated teams continued their winning ways, with the Frightening Foresters shaking up the Sifto Shakers in an 11-4 game, and the 1863 Sliders defeating Healthy Hackers in a close 4-3 game. This last encounter was a classic knock -out game, with last rock being the advantage throughout. It didn't save John Orr, though, as he choked on his last draw shot and threw it through the house! We know how you feel, Johnny!! Finishing off the night were the Gar - diners Big Enders, who, true to their name, scored a couple of big ends to defeat the Super Shell Shooters in a 10-3 gae, and the Legion Leaders, who hung on to win a close 6-5 game over the Lady Forester Rockettes. The Curling Club has begun it's Junior program again this year, with students from both the High School and Grade at the Maitland seven and eight from any of the local elementary schools invited to participate. Dr. Tom Jasper & Faye Robey are co- ordinating the Junior Curling, which takes place on Wednesday afternoons, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The cost is $30 for the students, and will involve instruction, and competition throughout the winter. Plans are also underway for a Bonspiel later in the season. Call Tom Jasper or Doug Bundy for more information. We finally have a report from the Friday Night Mixed group, thanks to Terry Worsell! Keith Dougherty, Subbing for Cam Bogie, defeated Bill Chisholm 10-5, Bob Corrigan took on Wayne Steward's team and defeated them 9-5, and Ed Mundle handed Terry Worsell a 12 to 8 loss. Nancy MacKinon, skipping for husband John, defeated Mark Fisher by an 8 to 4 score. Winner of the weekly door prize was Bob Corrigan. We understand that the Mixed group is planning a "Sunday after Christmas Jitney" (Dec. 27th), so if anyone would like to join in on the fun, check the bulletin - board at the club for a sign-up list. Bantams drop two games Goderich Elevator Bantams lost league games last week 4-2 to Exeter and 2-1 to Strathroy. In the Exeter contest the visitors scored an easy goal in the first minute of play before Goderich replied with goals by Kel- ly MacDonald assisted by Brian Lane and Shawn Talbot assisted by Jeff Hodges. in period two the teams seemed to want to play football rather than hockey. Goderich fell apart with poor forecheck- ing, ineffective puck control and a lack of clearing the puck from in front of the net. Unnecessary and foolish penalties, well deserved, cost the team a victory. Exeter scored three times to take a 4-2 advantage going into the third period. The team skated very well in the third period but errant passes and their inability to finish off plays around the opponent's net prevented the Bantams from getting closer to a victory. In Saturday's game, unlike the night before, the Goderich Elevator Bantams played a strong skating game against their arch rivals Strathroy but came up on the short end of a 2-1 score. The game was a close contest until at the four minute mark Shawn Talbot scored on a neat tip in from the stick of Jeff Hodges. This goal stood up for a period and a hall with Bob Lumley kicking aside several good scoring chances. The failure of the team to clear the puck from their own zone resulted iri the tying Strathroy goal and the go ahead goal from a scramble in front of the net. The team skated hard but were just unable to finish off their plays to get the equalizer. Perseverance and heads up passing will pay off for the Bantams in their next league action on Sat. Dei. 5 against Ilderton.
