of good Christmas gift suggestions
BY JENNIFER CULBERT
The Christmas spirit is in the air and fast
approaching so you should be thinking of
osme gift ideas. Are you tired of wondering
what to get that special Mom or Grandma?
As I roamed through the stores in Goderich,
I found a ferw little, inexpensive things that
might just be what you're looking for.
The local drugstores have many
possibilities, such as lipstick, prices ranging
from $3.49-$4.59, nail polish $149-$3.95, 4 mi
of Jovan perfume $4.69, bathoil bubbles

family there are Neilson's coconut fingers

25 ml of aftershave in a key ring wallet for
only $3.95, Aqua Velva soap and aftershave
kit $4.20, and also British Sterling atershave
for $5.88.

fer a nail dryer for $5.00, cosmetic organizer

ideas could be earrings which can be pur-
chased for $4.00, 5 ml fragrance gift trim-
mers $3.50, a simple deck of cards
$1.79-$3.19, a mini photo album $3.99, desk
calendar $2.99 or a miniature electric pencil
sharpener $3.00.
Christmas is a special time to share with
someone you love. It's baffling to the mind
trying to decide the perfect gift to give to so-
meone close to you.
When I was on my shopping spree I just hap-
pened to drop into some of the jewellery
stores, where 1 spied many beautiful pieces
of jewellery. For that very special guy they
have the trendy Gucci watch with leather
band, electraplated face, that range from
$285 to more expensive ones with a gold
band that are $850. Show the lady in your
life that you love and admire her by giving a
10 karat gold, 12 diamond and kunzite ring
for $1595, or the lovely interchangeable
Gucci watch that will match everything she
wears for $375.
Offered to you as well, are a wide selec-
tion of 10 karat gold earrings, rices varying,
depending on size and quality, form the low
price of $12.99 right up to $800. They have
less expensive ones for $300-$400.
Your wife tells you she needs a new winter
coat, the clothing stores have a wide selec-
tion of styles and colours. These will help to
keep her warm on those cold wintery days.
Prices range from $2.00-$345. Many pretty
sweaters are in stock for $29.99-$145. To go
with that new coat, why not match it up with
a new hat?, $23-$54.
Dresses make your wife or even your
daughter look wonderful when she goes out
on the town for an evening, $59-$119 depen-
ding on your specific taste.
Your husband or boyfriend might ap-
preciate a new television to keep them out of
trouble. For $350-$2500, the appliance stores
offer you a variety. If you wish to spend just
a little less money then go for a portable
stereo, $99-$700.
Your wife would love to tape her afternoon
soaps, or your husband could tape the foot-
ball game on a new V.C.R. for $499-$1800,
depending on the features you require. Is
your daughter constantly on the phone? I
bet she would love one of her own, $89-200.
Prices also depending on some of the
features it might include, such as a cordless
telephone.
For the good little boys and girls on your
list that have been exceptionally good, here
are some helpful hints. For the bargain
hunter out there; the car dealerships have
some special offers. Your girlfriend says
she would just love to have a Sunbird SE
convertible for $22000.00. Does your son
need a car to go back and forth to school
with? How about a Mazda RX7 for $20.000!
Your husband has Been a really good boy
this year so why not?
A new Cadillac would be nice, the El Dorado
is a wise choice at $40,000. Just because you
love your spouse, you feel generous and
want to buy her a 1988 Mazda 323, 3 door hat-
chback for $8385.
These are just a few of the choices so I'm
sure if you ask the question, what kind of car
would you like for Christmas?, you'll get a
surprising response!
Christmas is also a time for laughter and
good cheer. There are always a few people
out there who like to joke around when it
comes to giving out gifts that no one really
needs or asks for. How about giving your
younger sister those waky and wild design-
ed fake fingernails found for $2.59?
Funny little things such as a floppy
New celebrity -authorized
gifts may be the ticket
How would you like to find Tom Selleck
or Morgan Fairchild under your Christmas
tree this year? Or how about Pete Rose,
Ronald Reagan, Thomas Edison or even
Mother Theresa? Well, they really can be
yours!
Now, we're not talking about the people
themselves . _; . we're talking about their
autographs. Autographs of famous people
are hot gift ideas for Christmas, 1987. In
addition to being dazzlingly different, ge-
nuine autographs of the famous can be sur-
prisingly inexpensive.
"Authentically autographed photos of
hundreds of famous people can be bought
for under $20," says autograph dealer and
expert Paul Hartunian of Montclair, New
Jersey.
"Autographed photos of most of today's
TV, movie and sports stars are available
for just a few dollars. Of course, there are
more expensive items as well. A signed
photo of Ronald Reagan would cost up to
$350; one of Thomas Edison would cost
$695. Mother Teresa autographed photos
sell for about $95.00." he says.
An attractive bonus about autographs is
their investment value. Quality autographs
can rise in value ... sometimes quite
dramatically.
"The autographs of John Wayne, Elvis
Presley, John Lennon, Christa McAuliffe
and James Cagney have taken tremendous
jumps in value," he says.
So, for a Christmas gift not soon to be
forgotten, an autograph of a favorite
celebrity will do the trick!
animal pencil sharpener, $1.29, dog shaped
pens $1.49, cookie shaped erasers $0.99, cat
shaped scissors $1.25 or a car shaped
storage box $2.99, are ideal for giving the co-
workers -in the office. I think your father
would always wear a new belt buckle with
the words "World's Greatest Lover" in-
scribed on it, for the deal of only $7.99. He
could use a great butterfly shaped shaving
brush to brighten up his mornings with.
Give your Grandmother the gift
always remember you for, a backscratcher
$4.99 or fake eyelashes $2.99. Just what your
mother asked for!, turkey shaped salt and
pepper shakers for $10.99 or she can have
fun cooking in the kitchen with a silly pat-
tern apron for only $6.99.
For that "wild and crazy" friend, you
have the opportunity to tease them with
"Passion Control Pills", $3.99 or a roll of
toilet paper with crossword puzzles on it to
keep them amused, $3.99. The perfect
perscription for Graqndpa are "Over the
Hill Pills", also $3.99.
These are just a few comical suggestions
you could use, so as you are out shopping,
take a look around and you'll find the ap-
propriate gimmick to give'.
