Surprise wedding
Mrs. Mary Rollison and son Murray
returned from Toronto after spending a cou-
ple of weeks with her daughter and family,
Mr. and Mrs. Weston.
Mr. William Anderson of Newmarket is
visiting with his parents Mr. and Mrs.
Oliver Newmarket for a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Rae Ney of Windsor visited
on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jardin.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hallam visited Sunday
with his mother Mrs. Hallam and brother
Roy of Lucknow.
EUCHRE PARTY
There were six tables in play at the euchre
party held November 24 at the Auburn Com-
munity Hall and winners were: Mrs. Bren-
nan (high lady), Anne Glousher (low lady),
Murray Rollison (high man), Ray Hanna
(low man) , Lois Haggitt (most lone hands -
ladies), Ted Mills (most lone hands - mens)
and Raymond Haggitt (novelty).
Card parties are held Tuesday nights at 8
p.rn. at the hall. Everyone welcome.
40TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
A surprise 40th wedding anniversary din-
ner was hosted by Jack and Elva Armstrong
of RR 2 Auburn on Friday evening in honor
of her brother and sister-in-law Harold and
Margaret Carter of 94 Montcahn Street in
Goderich.
Guests attending were their daughter and
son-in-law Barb and Doug Jason, Karen
Warwick of Powasson, Ontario, Carol and
Gerald McDowell of RR 1 Belgrave, Fred,
Ruth, Lori Lynn and John Armstrong of RR
2 Auburn. Congratulatory phone calls from
their son and daughter-in-law Bob, Louise
and Rodney Pitblado of Cornwall and from
sisters Irene Wiley and Clarissa Price of
Vancouver, B.0 were received during the
evening. Cards of congratulations were
opened from Clif and Irene Carter, Joe and
Susan Hampson who wre unable to attend.
A television and a chimney wall clock were
presented to the couple.
WALKERBURN CLUB
On November 24 the Walkerburn Club met
at the home of Mrs. Elliot Lapp. Mrs. Len
Archambault opened the meeting with a
reading "Let There Be Peace en Earth."
The minutes of last meeting were read by
the secretary. Due to the inclement weather
on Nov. 21, articles left from the Vanastra
Bazaar were sold at the Auburn Library on
Saturday, Nov. 28. A discussion concerning
money on hand followed and suggestions to
save for a wheelchair for Huronview was
well received but no final decision made.
The January meeting will be held at the
home of Mrs. Lloyd Penfound. Mrs. J.
Vervey and Mrs. Roy Daer will be program
committee and Mrs. R. Archambault and
Mrs. Tom Cunningham the lunch
committee.
The meeting was turned over to the Tup-
perware representative who displayed her
wares. Members and guests made their
. purchases. Tupperware draw gifts wre- won
by Mrs. I. More and Mrs. 1=1:41Uhliffittf Th
hostess, Mrs. Lapp, was presetned with a
gift. The club draw donated by Mrs. Len Ar-
chambault was won by Mrs. Garth McClin-
chey. A lunch and social gathering closed
the afternoon meeting.
KNOX CHURCH
Rev. Dave Snihur conducted the morning
'service at Knox Church. Organist was Mrs.
Gordon Gross.
The call to worship was read alternative-
ly, followed by the singing of "It Came Upon
The Midnight Clear", prayers ad
announcements.
The scripture was read by Don Langford.
Prayer chorus was sung followed by prayer
of Thanksgiving and concern. The choir
sang an anthem. The sermon was given by
Don Langford who was visiting our service
and spoke on "Mission of the 'Church."

The offering was received by Bill Seers
and Briand Ramsey followed by Offeratory
Response. The service closed with the
Benediction and response. Next Sunday's
service will be early Hymn Sing and people
are asked to bring their Christmas orna-
ment for your family to be placed on the tree
during the service.
AUBURN UCW
The general meeting of the Auburn UCW
was held at the church 8n November 25 at 8
p.m. Mrs. Jack Middelkamp opened the
meeting.
Mrs. Barry Millian gave the meditation on
"Trees" and how they remind us of God.
She spoke on various trees which grow and
produce fruit according to God's plan. A
Christian also by word and work and 'bear
fruit in their daily use.
Scripture from Galations 5 was read by
Mrs. Middelkamp and an appropriate
reading given. Various tropical fruits,
mangoes and papayas and Sharon fruit
were shown and a poster of an evergreen
tree was displayed and decorated woth
peace, joy, faith, etc. The story of the origin
of Christmas tree in 1000 AD was given and
the lovely hymn "0 Christmas Tree" was
sung. Mrs. Middelkamp closed the worship
with prayer.
Mrs. Dana Bean conducted the business
opening with a reading. The secretary and
treasurer's reports were given. Mrs. Bean
gave the report on the previous votes – there
will be only one unit in 1988. Until the end of
the year, Church cleaning remains . the
same. Four Poinsettias are to be purchased
for the church. The executive will be in
charge of the Christmas dinner on Dec. 16 at
12 noon. Bring your husband or guest. Meat
will be purchased and potatoes supplied
with the remaining foods to be potlock. The
collection will be a gift to the Canadian
Blind Missions. The conveners of the
various groups gave their yearly reports.
Mrs. Bean gave the list of officers
nominated for the election and Mrs. Jack
Armstrong declared the first officers
elected. Mrs. Dana Bean gace the Benedic-
tion and lunch was served by Unit I and a
social time enjoyed.
SILVER TOPS
The Auburn Silver Tops met on Wednes-
day November 18 beginning with a potluck
lunch at 12 noon.
Following the delicious meal, president
Kay Lapp conducted a short business
meeting. Elliott Lapp then showed a film
entitled "Christmas in Germany." Aubrey
Toll of RR 3 Blyth entertained with several
solos accompanied by his siters Marjorie
McDougall.
The afternon ended with a few tables of
cards and the next meeting will be in
January. Further notice of this meeting will
be forth coming.
Church holds congregational dinner
Visiting on Wednesday evening with
Barry and Betty Jones was Lyle and Barb
Martin of Listowel.
Pine River United Church held its con-
gregational pot luck supper on Sunday
evening.
After dinner Jack and Linda Campbell
showed slides on their trip up the West
Coast of Canada to Alaska, Dawson City
and a number of places of interest. The
scenery is very breathtaking.
Todd Farrell, son of Ken and Glenna
Farrell showed slides of Sweden from
when he was an exchange student there, as
well as some of the different places in
Europe he managed to visit during his last
three weeks on the continent.
Dorothy MacLennan and her daughter
Peggy Heffernan of London and her son
Finlay MacLennan of Kitchener have
returned home after spending a few days
in,,.Eursa... Falls,, .Arkinsas where., they
visited with D.A.'s sister, Anne
MacLennan. '
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Robb were in
Listowel on Sunday attending a bridal
shower for Mrs. Robb's niece.

Thursday afternoon at the home of June
Wylds.
Weekend visitors with Charles and
Mayme Wilkins and Ken were Bill and
Joanne Wilkins, Stacy and Ian of Guelph,
Elizabeth Wilkins of Mount Forest, Bar-
bara Wilkins of Paris and Mayme's sister
Ruby Reich of Woodstock. Ruby also
visited with her mother and brother Stella
and Lloyd Irwin of Kinloss' Township.
Steven Miller, son of Bruce and Louise
Millar of Palmerston and''a grandson of
Rhetta MacLennan will be leaving shortly
for West Germany. Steven will be joining
forces with other hockey players and will
be playing for Canada for the next four to
five months. Congratulations and good
luck Steven.

Agreement between current landfill
site users appears to be imminent
An new agreement between current
users of the Holmesville Landfill Site and
the Town of Seaforth and Tuckersmith
Township appears imminent, with all in-
terested parties set to meet to discuss a
draft agreement.
The draft agreement, formulated by
the Holmesville Landfill Site Committee,
has been fowarded to Goderich, Clinton,
Seaforth, Bayfield, Lucknow, Colborne
Township, Goderich Township and
Tuckersmith Tnwnahin councils. The
final draft is with a legal representative
who will be reviewing and recommen-
ding changes as required.
The committee felt each council should
have an opportunity to discuss this draft
agreement prior to the final agreement
being forwarded to the respective coun-
cils for execution.
' The meeting is scheduled for Thurs-
day, Dec. 10, at the Holmesville Com-
munity Centre, 7 p.m.
